My parents were awake. As soon as I opened the door I watched as they rose from their seats and approached us. My father offered a friendly smile while my mother pursed her lips and examined the siblings. Her stare focused on my interlaced hand with Sandra's, the distaste for my girlfriend was evident. She parted her lips then shook her head and excused herself without having the decency to address the guests. "She's just a bit tired." My father tried to excuse her blatant rudeness while I clenched my jaw. It wouldn't be home without my mother's bitchiness.

"It's understandable, I'm sorry for the inconvenience," Sandra smiled while simultaneously squeezing my hand in reassurance.  If it weren't for her I would've opened my mouth and said something I would've regretted. I never minded my mother's treatment to others, but now that I watched her belittle Sandra it pissed the fucked out of me.

It's not like my mom means to come off as she does. She's just so sheltered and entitled to notice how she comes across. "We're going to bed. Mind telling the boys where to sleep?" My dad nodded and began taking Sandra's brothers upstairs. Sandra seemed to be confused as I pulled her towards the exit of the house. Since the age of sixteen, I had demanded to have my own place outside of the main house. Within the span of some weeks my dad had hired someone to build a small cabin behind the house.

"Where are we going?"

"I don't live in the main house. I've never liked living with my parents." Sandra rose her eyes brows and turned to look at the cabin a hundred feet away.

"Wow." The cabin was fairly large, it had two rooms and two bathrooms, it came with a kitchen and laundry room. Though I liked the thought of spending time with Sandra there, I planned to get us as far away from my parents as I could.

"This place is bigger than my house. Your parents went all out for you." Sandra stepped through the door and awed at all the things I took for granted. It was clear to see the place was getting cleaned, other than that everything else was as I'd left it.

"Yeah, they did," I felt embarrassed.

Sandra shrugged off her jacket and turned to me with a smirk, "where's your room?"
