Benny had been stabbed, repeatedly. They had followed him to the apartment thinking he was me. Steven's gang hadn't vanished, they still lurked in the shadows, they still sought retaliation. Daniel says they had followed his car along with mine and once they lost us, they targeted them completely. Daniel was able to protect himself, but Benny wasn't. All because of me.

"It's not your fault," Sandra tried to reason with me as I began to pack some clothes. I was planning to go see him, to apologize for getting him involved. I had already told her of my plans to fly back, much to her dismay, I had asked her to stay behind. I couldn't help but fear I wouldn't get to see him.

"It is, I should've told Benny to stay with us." We were way in over our heads, there was no way we would get away from the gang unscathed.  Sandra had always known that and I had to learn the hard way. She continued to try to reason with me because she was afraid they'd hurt me. I dreaded leaving her, though I knew it was the best thing for both of us.

"Pete I don't want anything to happen to you," her eyes glistened and her lips quivered.

I tried to reassure her I'd be fine, even though I wasn't sure myself. "I'm staying with Daniel, he said his mom got him some bodyguards." The Wu's didn't take threats lightly, I'm surprised Ms. Wu hadn't sent her son back to New York.

"What about Paola, she's not safe." I hadn't asked about her whereabouts once I heard about Benny. Since I heard the news all I can think about is seeing him.

"I'm sure she's fine, but I'll check up on her once I get there. I promise everything will be fine." Again, I began saying things I wasn't sure about. Sandra caught on to my hesitance and shook her head. I hated displeasing her, but there was no room for argument. I had to see Benny.

"No, I can't let you go alone. I'm coming with-"

"No way in hell, if something were to happen to you I'd lose my fucking mind. Do you understand that? You are my world, I can't lose you," I tried not to sound so pathetic, but failed immensely. I wouldn't function without her, I used to dread waking up in the mornings, I had no reason to. Now I had her, and life began to feel amazing. There's no way I'll risk that.
