We were waiting for Benny to get discharged. Soon after our destination would be the airport. Sandra was saying her goodbyes to Paola, Selena, and Barb while I waited for Daniel. Lately, he was in and out of the city.
I sat on the chair with my leg bouncing, the bandage on my arm was gone, all it left was a healing scar. Though I gave Sandra space with her friends I kept her close enough to see her. I noticed her tearing up now and then, she glanced my way when she did and a small smile took over her face.
"You wanted to see me?" Daniel spoke over my shoulder, I hadn't noticed him until he spoke.
He was dressed formally, an expensive watch on his wrist seemed to be more interesting than his surroundings. What a pompous jerk.
"I'm leaving this afternoon. I don't know if I'll ever be back." His expression remained blank, like usual.
"I wanted to thank you for everything. I hope you can consider me a friend because I consider you one. If you ever find yourself in California-" Daniel smirked, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
"Of course I'll reach out, Goodman. You owe me a lot of favors. Herman is taking you to the airport, by the way, please refrain from pissing him off any further." I shook my head with a smile, I've just come to realize that the bodyguard's name was Herman. I didn't know I was pissing him off. But, I owed it to Daniel to be on my best behavior because he has saved my ass one too many times. If anything I don't think I'll ever be able to repay him. I thought Daniel would leave as I bid my farewell but he took a seat next to me and glanced in Sandra's direction as she hugged Barb.
"How's Benjamin doing?" Daniel didn't seem to hold hard feelings. It looked like they finally made amends.
"He's all good. He was able to recuperate pretty quickly. The doc says he should be light on the exercise for another week, but he can fly." Daniel rose and eyebrow and scratched his chin. He was deep in thought for a couple of seconds before he spoke.
"He's leaving?" Daniel was surprised, he almost looked smug.
"Yeah, we're gonna start fresh over there." Everyone was leaving their demons behind. I was glad Selena and Barb hadn't been involved in anything because they were staying behind.
