Crazy Games - Divergent - Eric/OC

Chapter six

We all stand in the training room. Four, Tris and Eric are all here today. Apparently fighting is not something Eric would want to miss. I look around nervously to see if everyone else is feeling anxious like me or not. Alexis and Bec seem worried. Lindsey, the erudite girl with platinum blond hair, has a terrified look on her face. She looks really pale. I mean more than her normal pale. Josh looks fine and normal. But I know he’s not relaxed. He’s just putting up a mask.

I expect Kevin to be the only one who’s not worried but he is. He has such a strong body and is taller than all of us but he also has a big heart. He doesn’t like hurting people I guess. Chuck looks like he’s enjoying himself a bit. He’s probably one of those violent guys. Grant is a bit scared though. He’s a small guy.

“Well from now on you guys practice real fighting. You already know the basics. You’ve been practicing them for a while. Each of your fights will be scored so try and focus. The winner gets the full score but your technics also matter. You will be scored on that part too.” Four announces loudly.

Tris continues, “We will decide who you will be fighting each day. The names will be on the board. There are eight of you. So we have four fights a day.” Tris looks at each one of us. We all nod in understanding. It seems ok to me. Not exactly fair. I mean how Bec is supposed to fight someone as big as Kevin. A voice interrupts my thoughts.

“It became quiet boring since the rules have changed. Before, you should’ve kept fighting till one of you couldn’t continue. But now we just announce when the fight is over according to the situation. So there will be no major injury, just bruises and scratches probably.” Eric says with a not so satisfied expression and look at us like we’re wasting his time. I guess the new rules kind of ruined the entertainment for him.

Then four leads us to the board with our names written on it. I take a deep breath and look at the first row.

Kevin – Josh

Well at least they would fight fair. Josh is not as tall but he’s strong enough to match Kevin.

Alexis – Grant

Chuck – Sam

Oh god. Chuck? I’m gonna have to fight chuck for my first fight?

“Looks like we’re gonna have fun. Right Sam?” Chuck says grinning at me. He seems pretty satisfied with me being his opponent.

I roll my eyes at him. This is not good. It’s going to be hard for me. He’s stronger and bigger. I’m not too weak but I never did this before. It can’t be helped. I just hope he wouldn’t hit me so hard. He’ll probably play around a bit so I have time to attack. The last names are Bec and Lindsey.

“What are you waiting for kids? Miracle? Come on, move it. Josh, Kevin, on the mat.” Eric shouts as he stands beside the mat, crossing his arms.

We all gather around to watch and learn. I don’t know which one of them I want to win. They’re both my friends.

“Let’s do this.” Josh says to Kevin. “It’s alright buddy. You can hit me. It’s just a fight.”

Kevin nods his head and they stand in position.

The fight starts. At first they just circle around and hesitantly punch each other until Eric snaps, “Stop avoiding it like little girls. Fight.”

And then they get a bit more aggressive. Josh punches Kevin in the jaw and pushes him back. I wince a bit. Kevin kicks Josh in the midsection. Josh gasps in pain but recovers quickly and stops the next punch. It goes on for a few minutes, none of them willing to give up yet. Kevin is obviously stronger but he’s not aggressive enough. Josh on the other hand starts using his head after he took a few punches from Kevin. Josh is smart. He’s always been. So when he tricks Kevin and distracts him, pushing him to the ground, I know the fight’s already over. After a few more punches Eric announces Josh the winner. Josh helps Kevin off the mat. He’s not unconscious just in pain. Alexis is next to fight. I wish her good luck before I go to check on the boys.
