doyoung: hey, i'm at the airport now. my flight is in 45 minutes. i'll arrive to seoul tomorrow morning. i can't wait to see you :)

and slowly, chaeyoung's eyes closed.

just a month ago, since doyoung's last visit. he had been staying in new york for 7 months now. although he does still miss his home, his family, and his best friend.

though being far away from her, he never failed to send her letters, photos and gifts whenever he would go on a trip.

anything he sees, he wants chaeyoung to see as well. of course, it would make him feel that they both have seen it together. not literally, but a feel is a start. and he can't wait until they'll both leave seoul to see all the beautiful discoveries he had seen.

smiling, he handed his ticket.

. . .

"chaeyoung, chaeyoung!" doyoung excitedly entered his best friend's room. "open it. open it." he handed her a letter and she smiled as she grabbed it.

opening the letter, her smile disappeared. "you got accepted," she smiled again, looking up to doyoung who threw his hands up and sends punches to the air.

"yes!" he shouted. "how about you? did your letter arrived?" he asked and she nodded. he frowned, "why? what's the results?" he asked, worried she may have not pass.

"i was accepted, i chose to continue studying here since my mom could use my help in the shop." she explained and he nodded his head.

"well, i'm going off now. i need to give this to mom and dad. you're the first one other than me to see it," he winked and she blushed a little as she chuckled.

"dummy," she said, smiling.

"bye chaeyoung." he said and she nodded. "bye."

then off he goes.

after a few weeks, it was time for him to go. and he knows it'll never be the same as being close to her and being away for 11 kilometers away.

"bye mom." he pulled away before being pulled in by his dad. "haha." he laughed. "bye dad." he smiled as he pulled away before his gaze averted to the small figure who's sobbing softly.

"hey," he chuckled, walking towards her as he dropped his bags to the floor. "come here." he mutters, pulling her in as she rubbed her back. "it's gonna be okay." he smiled in her embrace. "i'll visit. i promise," and he will fulfill that.

"you will. but it won't be the same as seeing you everyday." she sobbed and he chuckled, pulling away and wiped off her tears.

"i'll facetime you everyday." he said and she shake her head. "in person, i mean." she said and he smiled.

"i love you." he said and she smiled a bit, "i love you, too." before pulling him in again for one last, bone crashing hug.

"goodbye, chaeng." he said when they pulled away and she tried her best to smile, "bye."

. . .

releasing a shaky breath, he twisted the doorknob, already feeling like something is wrong, even from the moment she stepped on the airport floor.

pushing the door opened, he saw jennie by the hallway.

"jennie," he called her, walking towards her the moment she stopped. "what's happening here?" he asked. he can feel the girl's quiet, though he chose to question her.

"doyoung, i'm so sorry. but i can't tell you. go ask alice, she has more rights than i have." she said, walking away.

and he dropped his suitcase when he saw alice walking down the stairs. "alice, what happened here?" he noticed the girl in a big sweater. since the girl is always stylish even at home, this was definitely weird.

"doyoung, i'm sorry to tell you this but. . ." the girl started to tear up. her eyes were puffy, indicating that she must have been crying as well not long ago.

"but chaeyoung. . . she's gone." and doyoung furrowed his eyebrows, releasing a chuckle. "w-what do you mean by gone?" he dared to ask.

"gone. she- she's passed." and the whole world turned silence.

looking down, he shakes his head as he laughed to the supposed-joke. "if that's a joke, it's not funny." and when the girl didn't talk at all, but just stood there, breathing unable as she covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face, doyoung couldn't take it as he walked out the house.

and when the moment he left the porch, he fell on his knees, looking up to the sky, finding a shooting star and he laughed at that. "is this supposed to be a joke?" and without even noticing, tears fell down his cheek.

he didn't know what to feel exactly. he felt numb. but yet, tears were falling down his cheeks.

and those letters she sent back were lies.

she said she would visit as well, go with him to all the places he explored. but she never will.

and when he last saw her, now he knew, she really knew how to convince anyone.

she convinced him she was okay.

she convince her own sister to lie for her and beg the doctor to let her out so she could stay with him.

she's a pretty convincing one. there's no doubt it that.

and they were two who can never meet.

in there case though, they did. but feelings were never revealed.
