sometimes i wonder
if the moon feels lonely or inadequate where she is.
after all, she is surrounded by stars.
maybe that's why she hides behind clouds so often.
maybe by waning and waxing,
she is trying to make people forget
that all she is,
and all she will ever be,
is a feeble reflection of the sun's power;
a temporary substitute,
fighting desperately to keep the dark at bay.
maybe i am more similar to the moon than i initially thought.
i live in darkness too.
