"Combeferre, please! If not for me, stay for your daughter!" You pleaded with your husband. "I don't want her to grow up without you!" Your husband turned to you, clasping your hand and laying a hand on your cheek.

"Y/N, can't you see? I'm doing this for the two of you! I want you and Isabelle to have the best life possible, and if this is what it takes..." He trailed off as he wiped a stray tear from your cheek.

"But don't you realize that this is enough for the both of us? That having you with us is the best life we could possibly have?" He wanted to say something else, but someone banged on the door of your home, urging your husband to hurry up.

"Darling, I need to go." As soon as the words left his mouth, the tears burst forth, along with your daughter. She flung herself at Combeferre's legs.

"Don't go, Papa!" She wailed. Combeferre released you and crouched down, pulling Isabelle into his arms.

"Don't you fret, sweet pea. Papa will be back before you know it." She sniffled into his jacket.

"Promise?" He took a breath in, hesitating.

"I promise." He told her. He kissed her head and picked her up with one arm, pulling you close with the other. The three of you stood there, holding each other.

But then the moment ended, and Combeferre released you. Kissing Isabelle's head one last time, he put her town. Then he kissed you.

The emotion behind the kiss almost made you start to cry all over again.

"Please," He murmured against your lips. "Stay away from the café. Don't come near any of the areas until I come for you."

"You promise you'll come back?" He nodded against your lips, pressing closer.
Eventually he pulled back. He turned to the door. Before he crossed over the threshold, he turned to you.

"I love you both."

"We love you, too," Isabelle was sniffling softly against your shoulder. He smiled at you reassuringly, before leaving and closing the door softly.

You never saw your husband again.
