As Amor entered the clinic, she quickly looked around the small waiting room for a doctor.
"You need to sign in before the doctor can see you." A monotone voice startled her and when she turned to its direction, she saw a familiar head of hair. It was a thick mass of black curls with hair clips that featured Disney characters on it, she knew she seen that hairstyle before.
"Um right now my hand is the only thing preventing a pool of blood from soaking your floors." Amor's voice sounded nasal and mumbled. Finally, the curls looked up from her computer screen and muttered shit as she walked to the curtain of beads.
"Hey doc you might want to see this girl immediately." She called behind the curtain which caused an old man to rush out to the front. "Oh damn you don't looks so good, come on back so we can take a look at that honker." He motioned Amor behind the curtain. She wasn't sure how bad she looked but by everyone's expressions it was bad. After the old man examined her nose and told her a bunch of mumbled words she left with a slip for bandages and creams to help the swelling. She looked at the woman behind the desk a little longer trying to pinpoint her face or her hair then it came to her.
"Hey, are in Psychology level one at the math and tech center?" Amor asked slightly shielding her nose as even air touching it pained it.
"Yeah at one pm, right? You sit in the front row, no sits so close to the splash zone" She laughed a little at her joke of their professor's notorious spitting problem. Amor wanted to argue the closer you sit to the front the more likely you will get an A in the class. But was unmotivated by her throbbing nose.
'Get to the point, genius or your nose will fall off!' She yelled at herself
"Um look I have this study group with one dude and was wondering if you wanted to join us?" If she joined it would be a good buffer between her and Ezra. Whose girlfriend she wanted to rip those blonde highlights off.
"Yeah that's sounds good. I just need to know when you'll be studying because I got four classes and two jobs. So, my time is precious." She agreed. 'Yes, pat yourself on the back for socializing girl.' Amor exchanged information with girl and went on with her day praying she doesn't see Ezra or his blonde bimbo anytime soon.
The rest of the day was, luckily for her, uneventful. She managed to sneak herself on the waitlist of African American Literature (number 10) but hey it was better than nothing. She went on to her next class, finding a secure a spot in the second row where she could avoid the stares. 'Yes, thank you very much everyone for reminding me I'm deformed at this present time. Very humane of everyone' She griped to herself throughout most of the lesson as her nose and people kept annoying her.
By the grace of God, she made it out of there without having to give anyone a black eye. Amor practically ran home knowing now that Ezra and her complete school around the same time. She wouldn't be seeing that boy and his colorful assemble anytime soon especially since she just wanted to beat his teeth in his mouth. Once she made it to the house something blared her ears off. It was silence. Amor realized she was alone for the second day in a row. As a child she grew up with music blaring from the radio as her mother filled the house with smells of warms spices and sweet treats. There was always something waiting for her to eat when she got home expect now. Her stomach growled in protest, she patted it and said, "Me too buddy, me too." Knowing her body ached for the comfort of home as she did.
More than that her stomach growled for food and that's when it hit her that she didn't eat lunch on campus like she planned. She had stored some money away from financial aid in order to have for food. Now what? She had no car and the nearest restaurant was down the hill this neighborhood rested on plus it was too dark to walk safely. She slammed her bag and herself on the couch in anger. How could two days at one school start off so badly? She made plans for this and how the rest of her life was supposed to go. No need for roadblocks or diverging plans. She wanted to make the best out of her life now though all the incidents appear as massive speed bumps in her plans.
