Michael was aching to go home.
He was currently on a date with a girl named Valerie. He had met her in a mall a few days ago, and honestly, he thought she was very cute and polite, so he figured he would take her out on a date, because what did he have to lose?
The answer was his sanity and time.
Lots of time.
This must be what hell feels like, Michael thought. It wasn't that the girl was a bad person or anything like that, it's just that she was just so boring, and she constantly interrupted him when he wanted to speak, which was one of Michael's biggest pet peeves.
And the awkward silences.
Oh, the awkward silences.
The awkward silences were the worst. Neither of them knew how to break the ice or how to actually keep the conversation going. They had nothing in common. Nothing.
They didn't have a single common ground, and finding those on first dates is rather important, and so far, they hadn't had any luck.
Valerie was now in the bathroom and she was taking her time there, too. So, to cure his boredom, Michael decided to text Luke, one of his best friends, hoping he could provide some advice, seeing as he was the one with the most experience in the dating area.
to: lucas
michael: luKE
michael: heLP ME
michael: im on a date with this girl and she's so boring it's just us being silent together
michael: she's in the bathroom right now
michael: and they are hoRRENDOUSLY UNCOMFORTABLE SILENCES
michael: what do i do¿???
Michael's phone buzzed with Luke's reply shortly after.
from: lucas
lucas: i see you have finally asked the master for help
lucas: lets get down to business to defeat the huns shall we
lucas: is she hot
to: lucas
michael: did you just reference mulan
michael: GREAT NOW IM HUMMING TO MAKE A MAN OUT OF YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF A CAFE THANKS LUKE
michael: but yeah i guess she's hot
from: lucas
lucas: srry
lucas: well if she's hot but you're not into her personality
lucas: why dont you hit it and quit it
lucas: touch and go
lucas: ya feel me
Michael didn't feel right about doing that. Sure, he has done that in the past multiple times, but he doubted it was going to work out now, besides, even though, she indeed, was hot, he had grown to feel absolutely no attraction to the girl whatsover, so doing the old 'touch and go' or 'hit it and quit it' as Luke called it, seemed more like a chore than anything else.
He just wanted to go home and sleep and maybe watch a movie or two.
After, again, taking her sweet time in the bathroom, Michael saw his date approaching his table from a far, so he did the first thing that came to his mind and grabbed his phone once again, trying to seem occupied, when in reality, he just texted Luke again.
to: lucas
michael: sHE'S BACK FROM THE BATHROOM.
michael: #pray4michael
michael: bYe
Valerie sat down on the chair across from Michael and shot him a smile, somehow, he managed to the same as he put his phone back in his pocket.
"So..." Michael began.
"So..." Valerie continued.
This has to be a joke, there's no way dates can be this awkward. He half expected the camera crew from MTV to pop out of nowhere and announce he was on Disaster Date, but unfortunately, it hadn't happen so far.
He fiddled with his fingers, trying to think of a topic to talk about, but his mind was blank.
"Do you have any pets?" Michael finally asked randomly. He had nothing else to ask, he had already asked her about where she was from, what her favorite movie, TV show and book was, among many other things. Might as well ask her if she has a pet.
"No," was all she replied with before continuing, "Listen, Michael, I'm sure you're great, but, I need to go run some errands I forgot about, if that's okay with you?"
Michael knew she was lying. How oddly convenient that in the middle of the most uncomfortable date in the history of dates, she had to run some 'errands' she forgot about. However, that only meant Michael could go home sooner than what he thought and this date - if you could even call it that - was going to be over sooner as well. So, of course he went along with it.
"Oh yeah, yeah sure, do what you have to do," Michael said as he stood up from the table, Valerie mimicking his actions.
"Thanks, I'm sorry this was over so soon."
No you're not, but hey, neither am I, was the thing that went through Michael's mind.
Eventually, the pair parted ways, Valerie running her 'forgotten errands' and Michael heading to the place that was taunting his thoughts the entire date.
His bed and Netflix.
Michael was a bit... disappointed when he returned home. He felt slightly lonely, because it honestly sucks to not have anyone to cuddle with when you get home or when you're feeling sad.
He desperately wanted a cuddle right now.
It seemed as though every date Michael had gone to, he didn't have any sort of emotional connection to the person, and that annoyed him very much. He wasn't exactly desperate to date someone, but he did want to have someone to hold, and someone to do romantic gestures for, and it was his own fault that he didn't have that.
He was just that picky.
Why was it that nobody seemed to ever fill Michael's expectations or standards? It sounds like a douchey thing to think, but he truly wondered why.
Had I seen too many movies? Was it possible that my ideal girl is out there? He thought.
She is, he concluded, She is out there, and I'm going to find her.
So, instead of being sad about being picky, or another date going wrong, he was now on a quest.
And he was determined.
Sure, it was going to take time, but he was tired of feeling alone, besides, it's not like he's going to marry the first girl he sees, he was still young and he still wanted to make mistakes, he just wanted to find her.
He just wanted to know she existed.
