CHAPTER TWENTY NINE

NIALL'S POV

As I walked out of the apartment building, I felt like I was on top of the world. Kissing Malorie, telling her how I feel, just felt so right. It felt like there was nothing that could stop me, and judging from the look on her face, the way she was so breathless, I knew, I just knew that she loves me too.

And even if she's not ready to tell me yet, I know she will one day. And I'm going to wait for her, because there's nothing and no one that could stop me from being with her now.

I caught a cab back to the flats and ran up the stairs, not bothering to take the elevator. I burst through the door and went straight to my kitchen. After I found a nice bag of crisps, I got out my guitar.

Playing softly, I let all of the bad things go and focused on the one thing I knew for sure was good in my life- my love for Malorie.

I was just about to pass out from the long day when there was a knock at the door.

“It's open.” I said, knowing it was one of the boys.

“Hey mate.” Zayn said, walking in and closing the door behind him.

“What's up Zayn?” I asked as he sat down across from me on the carpet.

“Oh, nothing. I was just wondering if you were back. You didn't ride back here with us.” He pointed out.

“Right. Sorry, I had something I needed to do.” I said, mentally face-palming.

“Would that something have to do with Mal, Niall?” He asked, being very serious.

I hesitated for a moment. Would he understand? Of course he would. “Yes.” I said.

“Well go on then. What happened?”

“I, um, went to her apartment. And I told her- well, also showed her- how I feel...” I said, trailing off a bit at the end. I couldn't help the small smile that crept on my face at the thought of what happened.

“Showed her?” He asked, quirking an eyebrow.

“I kissed her.” I said easily. At this point I was grinning.

“Niall, mate, that's bloody amazing! But there is one thing.” He said. I knew what that one thing was.

“I know she's not ready yet. And I'm okay with that. I'll wait for her as long as I have to.” I said.

He smiled and swooped in for a big hug. “I'm so happy for you two. It's hard for all of us seeing both of you as depressed as you are when you're not together. No matter how hard you try to get over it.” He winked.

“Right. I just hate myself sometimes for knowing I'm the cause of so much of her pain.” I said more quietly.

“As true as that may be, don't hate yourself. You did what you thought was best, but now things are working out. Don't dwell on the past, smile because you still have a future with her.” He said confidently.

“I don't know what I would do if I didn't know you, Zayn.” I said.

“Eat, eat some more, wallow in self pity, listen to depressing music, play your guitar all day lo-” He started.

“I get it.” I said, laughing.

“Better now?” He asked. I nodded. “Well then night, Nialler. I'm completely knackered and I have a date tomorrow.” He said, yawning.

“Sleep then, idiot.” I said.

He laughed and left, leaving me all by myself. So there I sat, smiling like crazy to myself while I played the guitar.
