CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
NIALL'S POV
All of the sudden, as I laid on the couch, staring at the ceiling, my phone buzzed in my pocket.
I pulled it out and was a little taken aback when I read a text from Malorie.
From: The Girl Of Your Dreams. Literally She's Only Yours In Your Dreams.
Um, hey Niall. I'm stranded at that restaurant you guys took me too the other day. You know, 'Old St.John's? Would you mind picking me up? It's okay if you can't...-Mal x
My brows furrowed in confusion at two things.
One: Why did she text me and not one of the other boys, we're not even on speaking terms.
Two: Why the hell is she stranded at the restaurant?
Not like I would even hesitate to help her, I wouldn't. I will always help her.
To: The Girl Of Your Dreams. Literally She's Only Yours In Your Dreams.
Mal, don't worry. Stay put, I'm on my way there to get you.-Niall(:
I smirked to myself and grabbed my wallet, hat and jacket. I pulled them on and stepped out in to the streets, avoiding crowds of teenage girls at all costs.
When I got to the restaurant, I saw Mal sitting on the steps, her eyes closed as she bobbed her head to the music blasting quite loudly in her ears. She looked stunning as always.
But I was no fool. I saw the tear tracks on her cheeks. Something was wrong.
I walked up and tapped her on the shoulder. At first she jumped and flinched away, but when she looked up she relaxed. She pulled the earphones out of her ears and smiled lightly at me.
“Hey, Niall. Um, sorry for asking you to come get me, but the other guys weren't answering my calls, and they didn't respond to my texts, so I was kind of out of options. I mean, not like I wouldn't call you or text you because it's not like there's anything wrong betwe-” She rambled. I cut her off, even though it was adorable.
“Mal, it's fine. Don't worry about it. I'm here to help if you ever need it. Come on, let's go.” I said, helping her up. We walked awkwardly and in silence for part of the way, but as soon as I looked over and saw a tear roll down her cheek, I couldn't help myself.
Stopping, I turned her by her shoulder lightly and reached up to gently wipe her tear. She had that look again, like she might shatter. So fragile and weak, like she was afraid of me.
“Mal, I won't make you tell me what happened, but if there's something I can say or do to stop those tears, please, tell me because I can't bear to see them.” I said quietly.
She sniffled lightly and looked up in to my eyes. “Can you hug me?”
I smiled and embraced her wholeheartedly, snuggling her fragile and gorgeous body against mine. There were so many times like these when I felt like just outright telling her I still loved her.
“Thanks, Ni.” She whispered. I felt a pang in my chest as she called me the nickname she used when we were dating, back when I could have sworn she loved me back.
“You're so very welcome beau-” I stopped myself quickly before I said anything stupid. “Mal.”
She pulled away and looked at me oddly only for a second. Then, re-adjusting her top, she continued walking. I took my cue and followed, letting the silence bring her comfort if it would. Thankfully there were no more tears.
