"The amazement was obvious between myself and Remus as we looked at the girl we had once gone to school with and in Remus' case, once dated. Jasmine Gold had not been heard of after she left Hogwarts but their were some rumours that she had moved to a different country, settled down with a French man and they had a girl and sent her to Beauxbatons.
But with one look at her, I could tell that this was nothing like the truth because, well, Jasmine really did not look like she was a mother. In fairness some mothers did look like this but most were not in their thirties and even if they were, they were usually single and not married to some fancy rich French man with a precious daughter.
Her hair had been grown out, her makeup was much more obvious than it would have been and her clothes were the same as one that some muggle fifteen year old would wear to a disco or something. She looked in no way ready to visit friends from school and I had to admit that she looked young but none of it was natural and natural beauty is the best kind of beauty.
"Well? Are you going to let me in or are you going to stand and gawk at me for the rest of the day?" Jasmine asked with a sharpness to her tone. Remus and I quickly shut our mouths and stood up properly as I awkwardly invited her in. Awkwardly because I was trying not to talk to her - I was still kind of angry at her about before - and so I ended up just gesturing to the inside of the house.
Jasmine walked right past me and I stayed astounded for a few more minutes about the air of confidence surrounding her as she walked straight past me as though I were nothing but a pole standing in her way. Nonetheless, Remus and I followed her into the sitting room as she sat on the couch and Remus and I went back to the places we had been sitting before Jasmine had arrived.
"So... um, how have you been?" Remus asks Jasmine awkwardly. Jasmine looks over to him, raising her eyebrows at his question, almost as though it was the most idiotic thing that she had heard come from the mouth of a human being. One perfected eyebrow raised at him and I was already sick of her. I mean, how dare she just walk in here and look at Remus as though he were an idiot after what she did to him.
"Ignore his question. What the heck are you doing in my house?" I ask, quite rudely to be honest. But Jasmine deserves everything I'm going to throw at her because she just seems completely and utterly annoying and vindictive and really different from what she was like whenever we were at Hogwarts together.
I know, I know, I really need to stop comparing everything to how things were back at Hogwarts but Hogwarts, Hogwarts was just one of the most perfect places in the world for me. It was fun and you were free to do whatever you wanted as long as the teachers didn't catch you. Well, the caught you a few times of course but nonetheless, it made the whole thing even more exciting. More adrenaline kicking. It was all just fun.
But now, well, now it was just reality every single day of my life. I mean, I barely ever even did magic anymore. There was no reason. I don't have a job to do magic at, I don't have any special missions to do, I don't even freaking cook.
"Well?" Jasmine's voice snapped me back to the present. I shot my head up to look at her and realized she must have said something because she was looking at me expectantly. This was one of those awkward moments I hate. They always used to happen back at Hogwarts. You would just be daydreaming in class about something stupid and then you would snap back when you heard the teacher mentioning your name and worry as you realize she asked you a question.
"S-sorry, what did you say?" I asked and Jasmine sent me a death glare. Jasmine's death glares have gotten a lot scarier as well. Maybe it's all the eyeliner. But she used to be so innocent and blush and give me this little glare that looked more like she was squinting her eyes than actually trying to glare at me whenever I would tease her about Remus' girlfriend.
