Elaine's POV;
I woke up the next morning and there were flowers right next to me. They were again red roses. Urgh! I groaned! I never liked roses. But that wasn't the problem here. John has again sent me roses. I remember giving the old ones he sent to mom as she liked flowers. I read the note and it said, "I know you love me so stop denying." Okay, now he was being annoying. I didn't even know who he was anymore. He had changed a lot. He wasn't like the friend I used to have. Or maybe I never really saw who he really was. Argh...this all was getting on my nerves. I took the note and threw it into the dustbin and then I went downstairs and gave the flowers to my mother.
"John sent you these." She said
"Then don't put them beside me. You keep them. I don't want them." I replied as I started making coffee. My father who was standing close to us heard me and asked, "What does that mean? You are getting married to him. In a few weeks you'll be engaged." He said.
"No dad, I'm not getting married to him. If you want me to marry him so much, then why don't you marry him yourself?" I replied. I was really cranky in the morning especially if my mood was off.
"Elaine! Why are you talking like this? What's wrong with John? You are getting engaged to him." He said. Urgh...he again used the word engagement.
"I'm not getting engaged to anyone! And there's nothing wrong with him except I don't love him. Now don't say you will grow to love him, because I don't want to." I replied
"Is there someone else you like?" He asked
"Dad, just enough with this topic." I replied as I started walking towards my room. I had enough with all his engagement love liking marriage whatever crap it was.
"Listen to me Elaine, if you have someone else you like then I'll cancel this marriage arrangement right away. Because I have given my word to my friend and I'm not backing out unless there is a solid reason. And we are hoping to have your engagement held at the end of this month." He said
That was it. I couldn't handle this anymore. "I'm not getting engaged to him. I've had enough." I said angrily.
"Why? Just give me a reason. A good enough reason to cancel the engagement." He asked. Gosh, he was being so persistent. Engagement this and engagement that. It was all getting on my nerves. And he kept on asking me for a reason, which made me more irritated. So who knows what got into me, but I blurted out, "Because I'm already engaged to the person I like." Later realising I shouldn't have said that, because now I'll get dragged into some weird shit.
"What?" My mother said as she looked at me suddenly. She had dropped her glass she was holding on the floor, making the glass shatter.
There was pin drop silence. No one said anything. I couldn't believe what I had just said. Stupid mouth. Both of my parents were looking at me like shocked. Of course they would be. I just told them I'm engaged. I don't even have a boyfriend for god sake, so how the hell did I get engaged?! Stupid mind. But right now that wasn't the problem. The problem were the questions they all were going to ask me. I gulped. I was in serious trouble. This lie is gonna cost me one day. But that didn't matter right now. Because at least now I won't get married to John.
"Elaine....you...." Dad said as I cut him off by saying, "Oh look at the time! I have to go the office to finish a few projects. Bye!" I said quickly as I ran out of the house. I didn't even bother to wear proper shoes or grab my back. The only thing I managed to grab was my phone. I needed to get out of that house quick before I end up lying about something more stupid. I decided to head to the office. Jackson had called me last night, saying he needed some help going over some files and rechecking them. On my way, I kept calling Claire. But her phone was dead. Damnit. I was gonna try and call her again but some rude guy bumped into me, making me fall to the ground. It also caused my phone to fly away and drop a few metres from where I fell down. I looked up and saw that same guy. The one whom I had bumped into before. He looked familiar. Oh now I know why he seemed familiar. He's the one who sent the proposal. I had seen him before in Jackson's office. Well I didn't care who he was. I was already in a bad mood.
