Chap#34

Atlas's POV;

I decide to stay with mum for a few days, because I am worried about her. Lyra asked Elaine if she will come too and she said yes. Is she stupid? Doesn't she realise that she won't have her own room over there? I get that she just wants to spend time with Lyra because apparently they've become friends and she helps Lyra with her so-called teenager problems or whatever. I don't really know what these girls talk about, but she should still think before she decides.

That night, I go up to my room to get a few files. I was going through all my father's files, when he handled his business, because I wanted to know about when or how Stephen started stealing money or doing illegal things to get more money. As I got to the room, it was dark and I stepped on something. I turn on the lights and it was Elaine who was sleeping on the floor. She was about to scream but I put my hand over her mouth. I asked her about why was she sleeping on the floor and then I told her that she can sleep on the bed. I said that because I'm busy with work anyway, and when I'd wanna sleep, I can use the sofa. I see her eyes go wide at this and then I understand what she's thinking and I tell her that's not what I meant. Is she an idiot?

That night, I went through so many files, that I was so sleepy at around 4. I decided to take a break for now and go to my room and sleep. Now, I was so sleepy that I forgot she was sleeping in my room, on my bed. According to my usual routine, I went and slept on the bed. Also it was dark and I couldn't really see anything.

The next morning I woke up with a smack on my head. That's the worst way to wake someone up and then I realised what happened. Oh shit. She's so red and I think she's angry about this. I wasn't in the mood to argue so I just ignored her.

That night, I slept while working, because when I woke up the next morning, I was still in the study. And there was a blanket over me. Who could it be? It couldn't be mum as she was resting, and Lyra never does something like this. Elaine? No, maybe. Well if it was her, then it made me really happy.

A few days went by, and one day while playing baseball with Lyra, Elaine stepped on my foot.
That night she was watching a movie in my room. Since I had grown tired of all that work, I decided to watch that movie with her. It was again some horror movie. She and her horror movies, they'll never end. And then we started talking in which she blamed me for her stepping on my foot.

"Hey, when does your birthday comes?" I asked

"Huh? Why?" She said

"Just tell me." I said

"17 October." She said. Oh. Got it. I'll remember that.

"Why are you asking?" She asked

"I'm gonna gift you glasses since you can't see." I said smilingly

"Very funny." She said sarcastically but later she started laughing too

"Okay then, when does your birthday comes?" She asked

"27 March. Why?" I replied

"Too bad. It has already passed. Otherwise I would've given you something for your memory." She said

"My memory is fine." I said

"Then why did you pass me the pepper instead of the salt at dinner?" She asked

"It was an honest mistake." I replied

"Honest mistake? The dinner tasted so...peppery after that." She said

"I don't think peppery is a word, and you have eaten burnt food before so I doubt it tasted worse than that." I said

"Peppery is a word. Also I only took two bites of that. And yeah you are right. That did tasted so gross. But that was a one time thing, I don't burn food." She said
