- you inhaled sharply, deep into the pit of your lungs.
- you held the breath there for a few seconds, before releasing it back out into the air.
- a relative had once told you that controlled breathing was supposed to aid nervousness, but all this seemed to be doing was causing you to feel even more lightheaded.
- you tried your hardest to concentrate on the road ahead, as you traveled in the passenger seat of a sparkling white Ford Thunderbird.
- your best friend eddie, driving along ever so proudly in the seat next to you.
- 'I'll allow you to go faster than 20mph, you know?' You mocked, the corner of your lips kicking up a small smirk.
- as you caught his reaction from the corner of your eye.
- 'I want everybody to get a good look at her.' He stated smugly, pushing up his glasses. 'Also, if I even get a scratch on this thing my farther will kill me.'
- he laughed nervously, wiping his brow with the back of his hand.
- 'Besides, we'll be arriving soon.' He confirmed, fiddling with the collar of his shirt that insisted on sticking up.
- you reached into your purse, retrieving your golden compact mirror.
- flicking it open with haste, you began to spruce up your hair once again.
- you felt far out of your comfort zone all glammed up like this, but it was the senior dance after all.
- you had to make some effort, and if you didn't attend students would only gossip.
- your high school quickly came into view and just like that the butterflies were back, swirling around madly in your stomach.
- trying to distract yourself you gathered your things, stuffing items of make up into your purse.
- eddie took his time finding a suitable parking spot, reversing into it almost effortlessly.
- 'You ready, Y/N?' He asked, bright eyed and eager to get into the dance.
- 'Yes, but you aren't.' You answered, directing your own eyes towards his tie before gesturing for him to move closer.
- 'I thought I'd taught you how to do this before?' You questioned, bearing a gentle smile; taking the liberty of straightening out his tie as he laughed.
- 'You have, but I fail to remember. Who likes wearing ties anyway?' He stated, ruffling with his blonde curls before glancing at himself in the rear view mirror.
- 'Handsome!' He said, admiring himself for a few seconds before you stunned him out of it with a soft slap to the arm.
- 'Do we look convincing?' You asked, frowning your brows in anticipation of his response.
- 'I mean, sure. Nobody would suspect the already rumoured queers of senior year posing together as a couple to the dance.'
- 'Extremely reassuring, Eddie.' You responded, toying with the material of your burgundy dress.
- 'If only I was attending the dance with Bobby Rodgers.' He said, sighing as he stared off lustfully into the distance.
- 'Unfortunately, you're going with me. So, shall we go?' You announced, rolling your eyes at him before reaching out for the door handle to let yourself out the car.
- 'Wait!' He stopped you. 'If we're going to do this, we've got to do it properly.'
- 'Let me get that for you, Miss.' He proceeded with sarcasm in his tone, jolting out of the car to open the door for you.
- you complied of course, not having any other choice.
- 'Thank you.' You said quietly, watching as other students piled into the school.
- the girls dresses were extravagant and the boys suites pristine.
- eddie was soon back by your side, after locking the thunderbird.
- 'My darling?' He questioned with raised eyebrows, offering for you to link onto his arm.
- 'Don't call me that.' You warned, holding back a laugh as you accepted.
- walking closely to him, you both made your way into school; for a night that you hoped would be filled with fun, laughter & maybe even love.

- entering into the dance, you almost didn't recognise the high school gym.
- you saw several large banners advertising the senior dance hanging from the ceiling.
- eye-catching posters decorated the walls, as an energetic live band played harmoniously on the stage in front of you.
- some students were already on the dance floor, then the ones that weren't were occupied by the large buffet table that had just opened on your left.
- 'First stop, food?' You heard eddie whisper-yell into your ear, making himself heard over the loud music.
- 'Agreed.' You smiled, continuing to follow his lead.
- the pair of you received a few menacing glares on the way over, from a group of boys who took pleasure in taunting eddie during class.
- and you sometimes, when you would decide to go against eddie's will and stand up for him.
- but this time, he held his head high and didn't even flinch.
- which was his instinctive reaction to their presence usually.
- 'I'm not letting those jocks ruin our night.' He told you, allowing you to step in front of him in the queue for the buffet.
- 'I'm proud of yo-' You were about to praise him, until you felt both of his hands rattling your shoulders like crazy.
- 'Y/N, it's Bobby Rodgers!' He confirmed frantically in your ear, practically stunned.
- 'How many times have I told you, that boy isn't worth your time.' You shook your head, chuckling as the love-stuck boy behind you pointed out his crush.
- 'And, he's got a date.' Eddie scoffed. 'I bet they're acting too.' He stated, utterly convinced that he was right.
- that was when you finally saw the young lady on bobby rodger's arm, you could've sworn you'd never seen her before in your life.
- was she really a student at your high school?
- she was absolutely breathtaking, quite possibly the most beautiful girl you'd ever seen.
- she was wearing a gorgeous off the shoulder full circle white dress; that complimented her figure just perfectly.
- her almost platinum blonde hair flowed generously over her bare shoulders, as she walked so elegantly.
- her eyes darting around her surroundings, while she smiled.
- nodding in acknowledgement to whatever bobby was spouting to her.
- you were completely lost and bewildered by her; a lump suddenly forming in your throat.
- you felt your hands become sweaty and your breathing increase within seconds, goosebumps spreading across your skin like wildfire.
- 'Who-who is she?!' You immediately bombarded Eddie, like it was the most important question your ever ask in your life.
- praying that he, the know-it-all of senior year would know the answer.
- 'I think her name is Hayley.'
