⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING: Vivid descriptions of hospitals & details of a car accident ⚠️

Written from Hayley's POV.

'I can't think of getting old, it only makes me want to die.' I sung lowly into the microphone, the subtle vibrations of my voice ringing from the heavy-duty speakers and out into the surrounding air.
- it had been months since those words had left my lips; but it still felt like I'd only written them yesterday.
- the lyrics continued to flow out of me with impulse, my body instantly beginning to groove in tune with the rhythm.
- I felt the music soak in deep beneath my skin, physically shaking my bones and fuelling me with pure adrenaline.
- nothing else in the world could make me feel this way, that's the magic of music.
- performing allows me to feel weightless, completely free and completely unbound.
- I spun round swiftly, unhooking the mic from it's stand to greet the boys.
- watching intently as they played their instruments expertly.
- each and every time I witness them play, I'm left in awe of their talent; even in rehearsals like this one, they give it everything they've got.
- I couldn't help but grin widely, before busting a few moves to make zac laugh as he smashed his drumstick against the snare.
- taylor set off on his guitar solo, just before the approaching bridge, absolutely nailing it.
- (as he always does)
- that's when I moved closer to his side, catching his eyes peer up at me; his lips curling upward into a small smile.
- 'I don't need no help,' I sang meaningfully, resting my head atop of t's shoulder as I tapped my foot along to the beat. 'I can sabotage me by myself.'
- 'Don't need no one else, I can sabotage me by myself.' I continued, the excitement of finally returning to the stage filling me with a new found energy.
- that feeling carrying me straight through into the next hour of band practice.
- 'HECK YEAAAH!' I yelled proudly, just as we wrapped up the new extended evening for hard times.
- 'That was tight! Awesome, guys.' Taylor enthused, pushing his curls out of the way to wipe the visible sweat from his brow.
- I nodded along in agreement, reaching over the kit to give both zac and joey a triumphant high five in celebration.
- 'We did it, babyyyy!' Joey rung out his words, smashing one hand against my own as he ruffled my hair mischievously with the other one.
- 'I'm watching you, Howard.' I stated plainly, using his surname as a warning.
- narrowing my eyes at him instantly, I bear a smirk; pointing two fingers towards my face before darting them intensionally back towards him.
- 'Whatever you say, Williams.' He says with sass as he rolls his eyes dramatically, then returning his attention back to tuning his bass.

- I let the guys talk amongst themselves for a while, as a reached out for my water bottle.
- taking a big swig of the iced water, before I was suddenly caught off guard by my phone buzzing from behind me.
- I moved in closer towards the location of the sound, picking up the phone with haste as a spotted it.
- 'Who's that, I wonder?' Taylor teased, wiggling his eyebrows at me cheekily; he knows exactly who it is.
- 'It'll be Y/N.' I answer him, swiping quickly on the call (without paying attending to the ID) and bringing the phone up to my ear.
- 'It's her first day on the new job.' I then carry on mouthing the rest of the sentence out, taylor soon nodding in acknowledge.
- 'Hey honey, how's your da-' I begin to spout, but I was softly yet firmly interrupted by a calm voice, that wasn't my wife's.
- 'Mrs Williams?' She asked me gently, I could hear the worry and fear in her tone; regardless of how hard she tried to disguise it.
- 'Speaking.' I answered simply, feeling my chest beginning to tighten as my heart grew frantic and began palpitating.
- 'My name is Dr. Alvarez.' She began, the speed of her words intense, as they shot out of her with urgency.
- that's when my heart sunk, something was terribly wrong, something had happen to Y/N.
- I found myself completely unresponsive, unable to string a sentence together in response to the doctor.
- her voice becoming a faint echo on the other end of the line.
- I heard her mention something about an intensive care unit, which then yanked me back to the here and now.
- everything as clear as day again.
- 'It's in your partner's best interest that she stays here until we know the full extent of her injuries.'
- 'Is Y/N going to be okay?!' I questioned immediately, in pure desperation. 'The injuries they-they aren't life threatening right?'
- I heard the doctor pause, my uneven breathing turning to heavy pant; as a felt taylor  rush to my side.
- his palm beginning to soothe comforting along my shoulder blade, while as impatiently waited for an answer.
- 'At this point we're unable to say, Mrs Williams.' She let out with a sympathetic sigh. 'But, I can ensure you that your wife is in the best place.'
- with that, my emotional control broke down entirely; my legs becoming weak as I felt myself crumble to the floor.
- taylor taking the phone from my hand when the guys began to huddle around me, attempting to aid my pain and hush my cries.
- 'Thank you, Dr.' I heard him respond, firmly. 'We're on our way.'

- the ride to the hospital was filled immense worry and uncertainty.
- I fought with my thoughts as to why this would happen, what do we do to deserve this?
- each passing second felt like a reoccurring nightmare, it felt like I was trapped.
- taylor continuously trying his best to keep me calm along the way, though it was no use.
- I knew I had to be strong for Y/N, but the petrifying thought of loosing the love of my life remained persistent on my mind.
- I was terrified of the situation I was about to walk into, it was the complete unknown.
- upon arriving to the hospital my limbs began to physically shake with fear.
- taylor and I made out through the accident and emergency department.
- where voices were loud and some sights shocking as some patients with visual injures were still waiting to be seen.
- 'It'll be okay, you're alright.' Taylor reassured me, his arm wrapped tightly around my shoulder as he held me in close.
- I found myself sprinting with purpose when we saw the sign for the insensitive care unit, immediately rushing to the reception desk to find out where Y/N was.
- within seconds, we were ushered towards a room with her name displayed on the door.
- I felt the tears were back, welling in my eyes desperately tempted to fall.
- 'Mrs Williams.' I was greeted politely, it was Dr. Alvarez just leaving the room with a file clinched to her chest.
- she reached out to shake my hand, smiling with the greatest sympathy as she could see the state I was in.
- 'Wha-what happened?' I managed to shutter out, grasping onto taylor's arm for support.
- 'Y/N, was involved in a 3 car collision.' She explained, darting dark hazel eyes between both myself and taylor.
- 'Oh my god. God, no.' I gasped heavily, bringing my hands up to cover my mouth; my body crippling as I cried.
- 'At the moment, she's in an induced coma and we're waiting for her to wake up.' Dr. Alvarez continued, bringing her hand to my shoulder.
- 'We've performed several tests and scans, which we're awaiting the results of.'
- 'But, overall the signs are positive.' She confirmed with an assuring nod. 'So far, the response to treatment has been great and that's what we want.'
- 'I can see her?' I asked quietly, turning my attention to taylor to silently ask if he'd come accompany me.
- which he responded to with a gentle smile, as Dr. Alvarez reached out to open the door.
- 'Of course.' She answered, without any hesitation. 'But, I must warn you Mrs Williams this may be shocking.'
- 'Okay.' I said lowly, inhaling sharply through my nose and out through my mouth to prepare myself.
- 'Please, take all the time you need. We'll keep you updated on any news.' Dr Alvarez finished, stepping aside to allow us both into the room.
- 'Thank you.' Taylor and I replied in union, before the door was closed swiftly behind us.

- I opened my mouth to speak but no words seemed to come out, there was nothing I could say to explain my feelings in this moment.
- I felt utterly helpless.
- I saw Y/N laying in the hospital bed in front of me, wearing a neck brace (which identified potential neck or back injuries)
- she had a cannula in her forearm that connect to a drip and breathing tube in her nose.
- I could see viable scratches, grazes and bruises on her skin from the accident and it tore me apart.
- despite all of the visible restraints she looked peaceful, just like in sleep.
- so beautifully unaware.
- I sniffled a little, swiping at the tears that trickled from my eyes as carried a chair over to her bedside calmly.
- taking her left hand in between both of my own, bringing it to my lips and pressing generous kisses all along her knuckles as I close my eyes.
- 'Please be okay, please be okay.' I repeat, my voice shaky as I lower her hand back down to the bed; still keeping a tight hold.
- 'I think things will be okay, H.' Taylor confirmed, with genuine belief in his tone. 'We've just gotta be patient.'
- 'Thanks for being here, T.' I tell him, turning to the side as he puts both hands on my shoulders.
- 'Always.' He replies softly, squeezing my shoulders in further reassurance of his words.

- the hours that passed left like days, but they weren't without their blessings.
- the doctors confirmed that Y/N suffered no neck or spinal injuries; which meant that the neck brace could be removed.
- other than the physical bumps and bruises, she only suffered whiplash and slight head trauma.
- I'd never been so relieved in my life, all I wanted now was for her to wake up.
- I witnessed the outside sky turn from blue to black through that hospital room window.
- It was easy to understand why those who spend a lot of time in hospital room tend to compare them to a prison cell.
- they can begin to feel so small.
- but I couldn't bring myself to leave her side, even for a second.
- I'd held her hand the entire time, relishing in the physical touch even if she couldn't replicate the sensation.
- I toyed with the wedding ring on her finger in an attempt to calm my nerves, played with her hair and told her that she'd hate how crazy it looks right now.
- I found myself gushing about how in love I was and missed her telling me that I was being so soppy.
- taylor had just left a few minutes prior to grab us a coffee, he'd stayed here with me the entire time.
- I expressed to him that I'd completely understand if he wished to go, but he was insistent on staying.
- but, without his presence in this short time I found myself pacing again.
- a reoccurring habit that I can't manage to shift; it felt like a drive, an impulse, I just had to keep moving.
- 'Wake up, wake up, wake up.' I begged, with my fingers in my hair I moved back and forth, taking quick glances at my wife as I did so.
- keeping up my deep breaths I tucked my platinum blonde strands behind my ears, how much longer must I wait? I thought.
- as my mind began to wander again, I brought my head to my hands.
- entirely defeated.
- 'Still can't quit that nervous pacing, huh?' I heard a similar voice croak out, a soft yet tired laugh following up the comment.
- 'Y/N?! Thank God, baby. You're okay, you're okay.' I rushed over, a huge smile taking over my face for the first time in hours.
- 'Hey,' She smiled, her eyes closing briefly before reopening; as she brought her right hand up to caress my cheek. 'I'm so happy to see your face.'
- 'I've been here the whole time, I've never left your side.' I explained, stroking her hair comfortingly before pressing a delicate kiss to her lips.
- 'I was so scared.' I breathed, my eyes beginning to well up again. 'I could've lost you.'
- 'You're not getting rid of me that easy.' She responded, shooting me a wink which caused me to let out a giggle.
- 'Come here.' She offered, shuffling over a little to allow to slip in bed next to her. 'Don't cry, things will be okay.'
- resting my head against her chest allowed my breathing to regulate, as a cherished the sound of her heartbeat thudding into my ear.
- 'So much for my first day at work,' I heard her scoff, her hand soothing up and down my back. 'I didn't even get there.'
- 'Oh, we'll get you there.' I assured her, sitting up swiftly bringing both hands up to either side of her face.
- 'Yeah, you're right. It's nothing we can't handle.' She replied confidently, her grin wide as our faces became just inches away.
- 'I think you'll have to be my nurse for a while to get me there though.' She prompted, twirling her fingers in my hair playfully as I laughed.
- 'Damn right I will.' I agreed, sealing the deal with a sweet eskimo kiss; things were going to be just fine, I could feel it.
