The heat from the sun settles on my face as I open my eyes. I'm lying on my side and Jett's arm is draped over my waist. I feel his body shift and hear as he yawns behind me. We're still lying on the quilted blanket in the open field from last night. We stared into the night sky seeking out constellations and any other shapes we could find. Jett fell asleep first. I watched him lying on the blanket so peacefully and couldn't bear to move him. I nestled as close as I could into his shoulder and let myself fall asleep.
I roll onto my other side so that I can face Jett. He turns his face towards me with his eyes squinted together. I can't help but laugh. This is the first time I've seen him first thing in the morning, fresh from a good night's sleep. I can only hope that I don't look horrible.
"Good morning." Jett says smiling.
"Good morning to you." I respond.
"I can't believe we slept out here last night. The dinner and looking at the stars was apart of my plan, but not that." He says laughing.
I laugh in response. "You fell asleep first. I didn't want to bother you."
"I'm surprised you slept out here. You know, there aren't many girls that would sleep out in the middle of an open field." He adds.
I grin back at Jett. I'm glad he looks at me as being different than most girls. I'm sure I come with more baggage than most, but I'll try to take the comment he gave me in a positive way. We stand up from the blanket and stretch our arms out.
"I know you're leaving tomorrow for Savannah. What would you like to do today?" Jett asks.
"Shower." I reply, and we both start laughing.
"Seriously, anything at all?" He asks.
"I need to do some laundry and pack my bags. I can't believe I'm going to be away from you for another week." I say.
"I know." He says. "So, you'll be seeing your mother and your friends while you're there?"
"Yes. I'm sure my mother will be preoccupied with her boyfriend, so I'll probably spend most of my time with my friends." I say.
Jett slowly nods his head. I can tell he's not thrilled with my answer.
"Well, don't be sad. You never know when you'll see me again. We always have video chatting too." He says with a smile.
"Always looking on the bright side." I respond with a smile.
Jett and I load our things back into the car and head back towards the city. I really hate to leave the cabin. For most, it wouldn't seem like much, but I've fallen in love with the old cabin and the open land. It's in the perfect location. Close enough that you can go into the city when needed, but also far enough that you can have some peace and quiet. I'm so glad that Jett brought me back there.
I spend the remainder of Saturday taking a shower, doing laundry and packing for Savannah. Jett insisted that he hang around since I'm leaving tomorrow. I have a lot that I need to complete, but I'm happy that he decided to stick around. He's always such good company. My mother has texted me a few times confirming that I will indeed be coming back home, even though I've told her numerous times.
"I hate that we're going to miss the Linkin Park concert." Jett says lying on the couch.
"I know. I was really looking forward to going to that." I reply. "But I haven't been home since I started school. It's probably more important that I do that."
"Yeah, you're right." He responds.
I finish packing my bag and leave it sitting on my bed. Glancing in the living room I see Jett still lying on the couch and decide to join him. I lie down next to him and close the space between us. There's just enough room for us both to fit on it. My head falls on his chest as he slowly rubs my arm. I could literally lay here all day with him and do nothing. I think it's the most comfortable that I've ever been.
