"He just showed up. I had no idea he was coming. I didn't even know he had my mother's address." I tell Boston.
Boston took it upon herself to call me this morning and find out what is going on with Jett. Mason was pretty irritated when he left my mother's house yesterday. I'm sure he needed someone to vent to and Boston was his first choice. I hate that things ended the way they did. I don't want Mason to ever feel like he's last on my list. He's my best friend. However, things were way to tense between him and Jett. I'll have to put some thought into how I can bring these two together. Hopefully, they'll be able to get along one day, even if it's just for my sake.
"That's crazy Evy. It's either very romantic or completely psycho." She adds.
I laugh out loud. "It was a surprise for sure."
"So what are you doing today?" she asks. "I get off work at two o'clock. Zane will still be at work, but maybe me, you, and Mason can hang out?"
"Yeah, that sounds great. I'm having lunch with Jett before he leaves Savannah, but after that I'm free. I need to see what's going on with Mason. I don't know why there's so much tension between him and Jett." I say.
"Yeah, it's a mystery." She says. "Well, I have to go. See you later!"
"Bye." I say and end the call.
I get dressed, putting on a pair of denim jeans and a long sleeve black top. It's semi dressy, but the denim jeans help balance everything out. The coolness in the air has finally reached Savannah and doesn't seem to be letting up. I think fall is finally here to stay. I'll miss the warm summer days, but I love to bundle up in the cool brisk air. I sit on the bed putting on my black high-heeled boots, when my phone goes off. Ding.
Is it okay if I come by a little earlier? – Jett
Sure. I'm already dressed and ready to go. – Evy
Great. See you soon. – Jett
I grab my purse and walk into the living room. My mother is sitting on the couch drinking a cup of coffee. The television is turned off. Brad isn't here. It's very quiet. There's been a lot of information come out over the last few days. I wonder if she's had enough time to process it all. She seems calm this morning. I take a seat on the accent chair across from her.
"Good morning." I say.
"Good morning Evy." She replies.
"Jett will be here soon. He's going to take me out for lunch before he has to go back to Atlanta." I tell her.
"Okay." She responds. "Jett seems like a nice guy."
"He is. He's the best ever." I say with a smile.
"Evy, your father was a nice guy at one time too." She says plainly. "Please be careful."
My eyes meet hers and I see the worry that's held in them. She's genuinely worried about me. There are times, most times, that I think she just wants to have situations go her way and be in control of everything. This moment is different. I hear a warning in her voice that I know wouldn't be there if it weren't for my father.
"I promise I'm going to be careful." I tell her softly. "If I get any warning signs from Jett at all, I will end things immediately."
She holds her coffee cup, steadying it with both of her hands. "Okay."
I hear a knock on the door and give a short shout. "Come in!"
Jett enters the house looking handsome as ever. He's wearing denim jeans and a baby blue long sleeve button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up a few times. I can't believe this man is mine. I could just stare at him all day long. He walks into the living room standing a few feet away from me.
