...an American, where at least I know I'm freeeee. And I won't forget the men who died. Okaaay, but honestlyyyy. Leeet's talk about pride! *symbols clash* Super quick - it won't take much of your daaay. Cause I'm just so proud of all you guuuyyyyys. God bless you if you're gaaayyyy!
As it is pride month, I will gladly write about it. (There is also some religion stuff in here, so atheists, you have been warned).
I want to get one thing straight, I am (haha see what I did there?)! But I also define myself as demisexual. More on that later.
Speaking as a straight person, many of which are incredibly homophobic, I am not. However, I do not believe that same-sex marriage is in God's plan, and I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman. That sounds incredibly rude so I want you to know that I think anyone who wants to should have the legal capability to marry whomever they wish to.
Saying I don't think gay marriage is in God's plan makes me sound like one of the "I need to speak with your manager" ladies like I don't think God could ever love a gay person. GUYS THAT IS FAR FROM TRUE! God loves literally everyone no matter what their sexuality is! God never said, "I hate gay people". God said he loves all of His children and the LGBTQ+ community is just as much His children as any other straight person out there.
Now. Onto politics! I really am not very good with technical terms, but we'll do our best discussing rights, shall we? LGBTQ+ people are humans, correct? "Correct, Ms. Sam!" LGBTQ+ people should be treated as such, correct? "Correct, Mrs. Sam!"
True or false: the LGBTQ+ community is discriminated in schools/jobs/their own homes/on the streets/on mars/alternate dimensions?
True! Ding ding ding!
Really, why should a company or a college or anywhere else think they can decide who gets what based on sexuality? They shouldn't. I'm too lazy to look up the actual statistics right now, but I know there are some places that still discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community, even if they're not supposed to. Just because you define as a certain sexuality or gender shouldn't give you a higher or lower probability to be successful.
Legalizing gay marriage was probably one of the best decisions lawmakers have made for America. It shed a huge burden off of those who wanted to get married but couldn't. I really don't have much to say about this other than it was probably a total confidence boost for those affected.
I'm a theater kid, so, stereo-typically, I know some gay people. Okay, I know gay people outside of theater too but you know what I'm saying. They are some of the best girls and guys I know. They have so much power and confidence that I'm honestly jealous of it. And they're not afraid to show love and kindness either. I think I'm generalizing too much, but if you have LGBTQ+ friends you most definitely know what I'm talking about. Especially if you're in theater too.
From an outsider's perspective and as a straight person, I realize there's so much information that I'm missing. I could go on for hours about how awesome my LGBTQ+ friends are, but I don't know what more to say because I just feel a general appreciation and love. It really hurts me to see how difficult the community has it. There is so much bullying and harassment. There's a lot of stereotyping that I'm probably guilty of.
It offends me to hear people talk about how good of Christians they are then hear them basically say that gay people can burn in hell. It's sick, and I wish I knew how to shut those people up. If you consider yourself a good Christian, or religious at all, you should already know that everyone is equal in the eyes of God. You should already know that love your neighbor applies to the entire human race. You should know better.
