Mother had always warned you of persistent men, especially if you found them charming. "The women in our family never had trouble attracting all kinds of men, just don't be afraid to be choosey." Dear mother was right, about attracting all kinds of men but you didn't think you would get a merman. 

Since that day at the beach, you had to wait months before returning to the ocean. Just what were you thinking when you kissed him? I mean, besides thinking that he looked like the sea god himself with those big angular red eyes and dark gorgeous skin that glowed in the sun with water streaming over his ripped chest. Even his hair had gold in it! And let's not even get started on his voice. Every time you thought of it you felt a little weak at the knees. Seriously, what were you thinking?

You tried to go back to the water but every time you went you nearly ran into him. The ocean was a second home to you, and you hated being away for too long. Plus you had family to visit. Dear mother died here in the ocean. Mother lived a full life worthy of songs and tales. She had many partners but loved twice. The proof of her first love lived here in the ocean collecting human items as treasures. Sister lived alone like her father (who you called uncle) did when he lived, but it never seem to bother her. She had you after all and loved your visits. Your father, a human, was mother's second love and when he died soon after turning 18 from a car accident. Mother already knew when you went to tell her. She felt it her heart she explained to you and was waiting to tell you goodbye. She was so weak that the magic that hid the millennial of years in her face showed before turning to foam.

That day, three years ago, when you jump into the ocean to find the child even if was too late you didn't expect to see merfolk helping the toddler. If they hadn't you weren't sure if you could have brought the boy back. When you saw that they had resuscitated the child you planned on scaring them off by merely swimming down to get the boy. It only partly work since the mermaid grabbed the merboy and swam away, but you didn't expect the merman to meet you halfway. You had to suppress your mother's blood to look more human, but you could see in his eyes that something was off about you. When you grabbed the child, you turned away so he wouldn't see you take a breath and hold it so you could make it back up with no trouble. Again, he surprised you by wrapping his arms around your waist to help you and then he gave you his air. Then you had to kiss him. Goodness.

His persistent cost you from swimming in the ocean in the day but luckily you discover that he always left before the sunset. So, night swimming it was. And that's what all this was. Before you leapt off the cliff you made sure no people were around to think that you were killing yourself. Yes, you could have walked into the water, but it didn't feel as good as diving in. To have the water rushing to meet you and take you in to it's care. The ocean was your second home, but your first love.

Happily, you dived down into the dark depths the temperature went from freezing to warm in seconds. You stretch out your hands and closed your eyes as small changes were made in your body. The first had to be your lungs to breath in the oxygen in the water. Next your skin went from human to the skin of your mothers so you wouldn't freeze. Then your legs each grew small fins at the back and scale began to pop up the sides of you legs. Your ear change looking more fin like, your nails grew to small claws, teeth slightly fanged and eyes changing to stay protected in the water. You stretch and rolled your neck and shoulder as you relaxed in the water. It was good to be home.

"Hello again."

Your eyes opened wide and turned to see and upside-down merman. The same merman from three years ago. He smirked at you like he won an unspoken game of hid and seek as the last few scales formed on the sides of your face. Your mouth opened slightly as your voice failed you. The smirk widen when he saw the change on your face. God, he was even gorgeous upside down.
