Atem didn't think coming at a different time would help and he was slowly being proven right. He surfaced and swam nearly five miles down and didn't find her. He begun to worry that the reason he couldn't find her was because he couldn't remember what she looked like. It couldn't be though, since nearly every night he dream of the human swimming down to him. Maybe he was over thinking the experience. For all he knew the woman had suiters on land and had already settled down with a husband in the three years that passed.
Maybe Mana's idea isn't such a bad one. It may be time to settle down and find a mate. The thought of a mermaid made him cringe since he always thought that his partner would be human. The problem with mermaids was that their affection drifted off after sometime. That's why it was common to have many lovers. Life was just too long for them. The problem with humans was that their life so too short. Atem would be no where near middle age by the time a human wife would die.
I could just not have a partner, he thought sadly as he half-heartily glanced at the shore finding it empty. The idea didn't appeal to him but it was better then having a shallow relationship. Maybe that's why he was so infatuated with the woman from three years ago. If by some wonderful miracle she happen to be a living fable and had merfolk blood in her veins then she could be a perfect match for him. Maybe.
Atem shook his head to clear the day dream from his mind. He wasn't a child anymore to go chasing a fable. The golden light from the setting sun shone in his eye making Atem realized the time. No one may look for them but he didn't want to push their luck. It was time for Yugi and him to go home and time for him to forget about the mysterious human. He had another century before his father and the council start pressuring him on mating. More if one of his older brothers manages to get a child out of their harems.
Though he didn't care much for his half-brothers, especially the second one, if they had an heir then he and Yugi would be free of the crown. They could leave the colony if they wanted and go explore the ocean. Mana would be sad to see them go but he was sure Mahad would keep her company while they were any. The older merman seem fond of the energetic mermaid but never bother to court her since she was close with Atem. I wonder if I should say something to him. I'll ask Yugi about it while we head home.
He started to go back towards where he left Yugi when he saw a woman standing at the edge of the cliff in a sea-green bikini. Atem at first thought nothing of it till he saw her looking down at the waters at the bottom of the cliff. Below had no rocks but it was deep drop. A shiver went down his spine as he studied her. She better not jump into that or she could die. He looked back over at the beach but there was no one else around so no one would see her if she needed help.
Biting his lip Atem swam closer keeping and eye on the woman when she moved back from the edge and disappear over the slope. Good. She was probably just sightseeing. No sooner had he thought this when the woman ran back to the edge and leap off the cliff and dive down into the cold water.

"Seriously!" Atem growled and dived under the water to find the woman or her body. From the high jump she could break her neck or pass out if she didn't enter the water right. The last light of the sun shone dimly in the water as the human dived down further into that water.
The disturbed water blocked his view of the human for a moment then slowly settled back. The woman moved her arms and legs diving further into the water. Something clicked in the merman's mind as he watched her swim deeper and deeper. Atem slowed for a moment as his heart stopped then speed up at his top speed towards the human. He found her. The woman that just leaped into the sea was the woman he was looking for these past three years.
