What a night

Yami softly held your hand as you walked into the venue. Paparazzi stood behind the gates. Yami quickly escorted you in before they could see you. Kaiba saluted the brothers before greeting you. He seemed to not like you, but oh well. You carried out your night eating at the table you were seated at with Yami, Yugi, Anzu, Joey, and Mai. You all conversed fashionably. While Yami sat to your left, Mai sat to your right,

"I see you were his date. Why don't you just get with him already?"

You fiddled with your dress before looking over at Yami longingly. He was in a deep conversation with Joey and his brother about company projects,

"I don't know how he feels Mai. I just can't bring myself to do something"

You carefully thought your words through. You almost had to bite your tongue. Yami trusted you with everything he told you. You didn't want to betray him by telling Mai something he didn't approve of. You warily lowered your tone,

"He recently told me he wasn't big on love. So I just don't know"

Mai rubbed your back reassuringly,

"Everything will figure its way out soon. All I can say is, you'll know when you know (y/n)"

You nodded glumly, slumping your shoulders from the previous conversation.

Yami was now in a duel with Kaiba. You had never seen him duel, so this was awesome. His concentration was solely on the game. He looked at his cards with such intensity, he could burn a hole through them. His aura felt heavy. His eyes had darkened into a reddish magenta. You looked up to see Joey smirking and Yugi smiling at you. They knew about your little crush, and they also wanted you to date Yami. Everyone believed you were perfect for him. But the real question was, did he believe so too?

You headed to the balcony, yearning for some fresh air. You were thinking about your jobs. You felt you could finally quit the one at the café because you finally managed to pay off all of your student loans. With the money you made working for Yami, it truly did wonders. You had about two years left before you graduated, which was fine. Graduating high school early was worth it. You were just glad everything was finally sorted out. Your thoughts were interrupted when you felt a presence behind you. You turned to find Yami. He held a serene look on his face,

"Hey there cowboy, do you need anything?"

Yami smirked at the nickname,

"I was wondering where you went"

You hummed in reply as he stood beside you, watching the stars,

"How was your duel with Kaiba?"

You sipped your champagne carefully,

"It went well. He was off by a few hundred points, but he still could've won"

Yami looked conflicted about something. He was typical calm, but his body posture suggested otherwise,

"Are you alright Yami?"

The male looked at you a bit startled before covering it up,

"I'm alright, I have a lot on my mind"

You placed your hand on his reassuringly. The contact made you burn deeply, but he didn't retract from you. His long slender fingers softly wrapped around yours,

"I just want you to know, if you ever need anything I'm here for you"

Although you couldn't tell what his expression was, you knew he understood you. It was just a feeling both of you had,

"Thank you (y/n)"

That night, Yami drove you home. You actually ended up in a fierce debate with him over why you should pay for his gas. There were many times he took you home and you couldn't just let it get to your head. You felt like you needed to repay him. After he denied your act, you finally complied. You waved softly as he backed out of your driveway. Little by little, this man would be the death of you. Your feelings were now, stronger than ever.
