You were closer to Yami than ever before. He revealed some of his past to you as he felt you were worthy of knowing. Through dueling, he learned to survive in a sense. He and Yugi were forced into dueling as their popularity continued. Criminals threatened to end his brother and his grandpa is he did not comply. This is the reason he became the king of games. It was not only because of strategy, but it was for the ones he loved. For their protection.
You understood a lot better why he was protective over you.
~~~~~~~~~~~two days later~~~~
You came in Monday morning doing your basic work. You calmly settled into your desk. Before you could grab your paperwork, a horn was blown right next to your ear,
"AHH! WHAT THE-"
You looked beside you to find Joey holding a horn and Yugi holding balloons. Mai held a birthday bag while Yami smiled nonchalantly. You rubbed your back from the fall you took. Once second you were on your chair, the next you were on the floor. Yami held out a hand for you,
"Thank you for helping me up Yami, unlike you AIRHEADS WHO MADE ME FALL!"
Yugi, Mai, and Joey rubbed their necks sheepishly,
"We're just tryna celebrate witcha (y/n)"
Yugi offered you a hug before handing you a giant bouquet with balloons, which you placed on your desk,
"Well, at least you cared, so thank you guys"
Mai gave you a big sister hug before handing you your present (which consisted of a new designer bag). You profusely thanked the blond before offering to pay her back (she denied of course). All of your friends headed back to their work to continue their day. Yami stood waiting next to you,
"I truly hope you enjoy this day (y/n). I got you something myself, but I'm hoping to give it to you during a dinner... if you don't mind going out with me tonight"
Your eyes sparkled in delight. You wondered what the man had in store for you. You hugged the male, breathing in his scent,
"Of course I'll go. If you're there everything will be fine"
Yami smiled charmingly at you,
"I'll see you later tonight"
You felt as if you were on the stars. Yami was going to be the death of you. You briefly fanned your face before getting to work.
