You trudged through the snow. You were running late to work and you couldn't find anyone to take you. As much as you loved December, it was absolute hell because of the cold. You wrapped your jacket around tighter. You shivered like crazy. You actually considered calling Yami and asking him if he could pick you up, but you didn't want to bother him. The man showed up for work at 8:30 while you came in at 9. He was already in his office. You finally made it to the building, quickly rushing upstairs. Mai stared at you bewildered,

"Hey (y/n) can I get you some coffee? You don't look too good"

You nodded at the blond. She rushed into the break room, turning on the coffee maker. You sighed at the room's warm temperature. You actually dressed cute for once, but your day was already terrible. You looked around on your desk, trying to find your daily files. With no avail, you walked to Mai,

"Hey Mai do you know where my files are? Seems like I haven't received any"

The blond woman softly blew on the boiling hot coffee,

"Hm no"

You zoned out for a few moments before Mai spoke,

"Yami told me to send you to his office when you got here"

You mentally cringed. This was your first time ever being late. You were late by a few minutes, but you didn't know how Yami would react. Before you could walk out, Mai handed you your coffee,

"Thank you"

You quickly asked the woman if Yami was free at the moment. She assured you his schedule was empty for the rest of the hour. You knocked on his door, praying he wouldn't be upset. You have never seen Yami mad or upset. Of course, he probably did get upset at least once around you, but you couldn't pick up on it. He seemed to calm himself down around you,

"Come in"

You opened the door softly, peeking your head in childishly. Yami sat at his desk, typing away on his computer. He didn't even spare you a glance as you walked in. Right away, you acknowledged this as a sign of him being upset. You slowly began picking up on the way he expressed it.

You softly gulped collecting your thoughts,

"Yami, have you seen my files? I looked for them but I haven't found them on my desk"

He paused his typing before looking at you. His eyes were sharp with intensity, yet he looked as nonchalant as always. Yep, you knew he was upset. He abruptly stood, picking out the files before handing them to you. You thanked him before walking off. Halfway out of the room, he called after you,

"Why were you late?"

You softly spun on your heel. He continued typing, waiting for you to answer him. You knew he would be upset about it. Yami didn't enjoy having late employees. He did cut them slack occasionally, depending on who they were of course.

Although... he didn't sound upset in his voice,

"I had to make a small emergency run. I assure you it won't happen again"

You could've told him the real reason, but at that very moment, Yami wasn't your friend, he was your boss. He stopped his typing to look at you again,

"Alright"

He smirked before turning back to his screen. You couldn't help but question his response,

"Hm, you're not upset?"

He glanced at you before chuckling lightly,

"No. Just make sure it doesn't happen again"

You found new confidence in his words,

"Yes, Sir!"

You happily marched out. Yami chuckled once more at your behavior. He wasn't mad that you didn't show up, he was just disappointed in a sense. He was disappointed he would miss seeing your beautiful face.
