SHAWN MENDES

"You can't seem to stop smiling," Mum notices, distracting me from my phone.

I glance at her after quickly typing a response to Trinity. We've been texting a lot over the past week. I bite back a beaming grin at the thought of the beautiful girl in New York.

"Hm?"

She shakes her head with a chuckle, "What's going on with you?"

Just then, Flynn and Adrian enter the kitchen. They each sit on a breakfast barstool whereas I'm sat on the counter opposite the kitchen island, facing them as Mum prepares lunch for everybody. I offered to help but she insisted it was fine.

Once again, the whole family — minus Scott, he has training commitments — is gathered together, but this time we are staying at our family home in Pickering where we grew up, not far from my grandfather's lake house.

"Yeah bro," Adrian pipes up, "What is going on with you?"

I narrow my eyes at my curly headed brother, scrutinising his freckles that have started scattering his nose due to the sun, "I'm just happy."

I hear my mum giggle, catching my attention. Flynn and Adrian stifle laughs as well, Adrian's cheeks puffing out as Flynn grabs an apple to hide his smirk. I frown, confused.

"What?" I ask, oblivious.

"You're happy 'cause you got some lovin'," Adrian teases, mockingly dragging out his words, making my cheeks flush.

"No I didn't!" I defend. I look over at Mum, who's grinning down at the toasted sandwiches she's cutting, "Mum, did you say something to them?"

She shrugs, "I was excited!"

"Mum," I groan, my head falling back and leaning against the wooden overhead cabinet behind me.

Flynn giggles, "Shawn got laid."

I snap my head towards him, scowling. Mum gasps and scolds Flynn just as Dad walks through the opened double doors that merge the main living room and the kitchen.

"What's this about my son getting laid?" he nonchalantly asks, heading for the Nespresso machine to make himself a coffee.

"Dad!"
"Manuel!"

My dad just chuckles at both my mother's and my own callings, shaking his head.

"We didn't even have sex," I mutter, frowning in annoyance.

"Oh right," my dad nods, looking at me, "You're just whipped."

"Ha! That's exactly it Dad!" Flynn enthusiastically agrees, pointing his half-eaten apple towards me accusingly.

"Hey, so what if I am?" I chirp smugly, smirking at my younger brother, "Flynn can't even work up the courage to ask a girl on a date."

He scoffs, "Oh fuck you."

"Flynn Oscar Devon Mendes!" my mum gasps, plating our sandwiches one by one.

"Oh fuck! He got full-named!" Adrian elicits a chuckle.

"Excuse me Adrian Roy Keelin Mendes!" Mum shrieks, "Care to repeat yourself?"

Adrian's eyes widen and he firmly shakes his head, shutting his mouth. I hold my fist to my mouth in hopes of withholding my building laughter, but eventually bark out a laugh, clapping my hands in amusement as Flynn blushes crimson. Dad snickers, earning a swat on the chest from my mum. He swiftly grabs her wrist, twirling her around and pulling her in for a sweet kiss. She immediately blushes and I smile. Maybe that could be Trinity and I someday.
