Chapter - 6

Storm

When you find a heartbeat that calms the storm in you, hold it close with everything you have.

Dhruv had found that heartbeat that calmed the storm in him. It wasn't his dead girlfriend Jessica because when she was in his life, Dhruv had no worries but her. She was herself the storm in his life which kept him alive. But now that she was gone his life had been nothing short of a huge storm.

But two months back when a random girl Naina Shroff was sitting beside him in his flat and all they shared was silence, the storm had calmed down. It was a very new and strange feeling to feel at peace and that had made him anxious. He did what he felt was right then. They had parted and never saw each other again for the whole two months. But in these two months Dhruv had found it hard to stay away. He had tried searching for her but what did he know about her except for her name. Nothing. Many a time when he would think back to those two nights in the past he had met her, there would be always a doubt lingering in his conscious mind that was she even real? It was like she came out of nowhere into his space, crashed those eyes with him with a stronger force than gravitation and then just disappeared as plainly beautiful as she was. Truth was that Dhruv badly wanted to meet her again because looking into those eyes was like an addiction that didn't take him on high but rather calmed him down.

It didn't help that he failed to find her because he knew nothing about her. And his place still reminded him of her, those eyes still haunted him at night and he was more unstable in his life than he ever was. What scared him was that now those eyes haunted him with a face. And that face wasn't Jessica’s anymore. It was hers. It was Naina’s. The blind girl who got the eyes of his Jessica. It bothered him that he wanted to hear Naina’s voice speak to him. It was like he was resisting to think about her but she only ended up persisting in his thoughts. The only time he didn't think about her was when he was working out in the gym and training others, but in the shower, in the bar when he is working late night and in his flat when he crashed into bed, all he thought about was her. He was so done with this place, how can a single night can be of that much impact. She was there not for the night but only a few hours and still he couldn't erase her. What worsened his mind was that the visions in his head kept switching from Jessica to Naina and then back to Jessica as if someone was playing a very bad trick on him. It was only last week that he had decided to change his flat for better. It was ruined in the monsoon months anyway and he resolved he couldn't get through December staying there. He had visited a few places but couldn't fix anything on those big spacious apartments. He wanted something simple and small for him. His clients at the gym had suggested him a few places to check out and so on a day like Sunday, he was walking the Mumbai streets, having a look at a few localities.

The December sun shone above him in the afternoon as he entered the Daffodils society. He was hoping to get a place here because the reviews were good and it was also close to his gym.

“Ahh!” He heard a female’s voice in the parking. Her right foot was stuck under the scooter that she might have not been able to handle the weight on one side. Dhruv jogged up to her and helped to set the scooter stand upright.

“You okay?” He asked the girl who was examining her ankle with a worried face. She had shoulder length curly hair ends of which were colored Caramel.

“Yeah, can you help me to sit somewhere?” She asked and then looked up at him. Dhruv watched her expression change from troubled to an unexpected surprise. He was sure her eyes would have become wide under those shades she was wearing.
