Relationships

I'm addicted to the way I feel when I think of you.
It's been two weeks that Naina and Dhruv have had a real conversation. They did saw each other and waved in acknowledgement but neither of them chose to initiate anything more than normal greetings. The unnecessary tension between them was making Naina overthink a lot. She often wondered about what Dhruv thought about her and if she ruined the beginning of their friendship by being so personal. But then she had always respected his space and gave him time. The fact that she was not able to decode the reason behind his drive to overwork was frustrating her. It was not good for her mental health. Naina wasn't a person who'd hold something in her mind for long. If there was an issue, she would always talk about it and clear the misunderstanding. This time too she wanted to take matters into her hands and initiate but she was disappointed by Dhruv's actions.
For two weeks Dhruv wasn't showing that he doesn't want to talk but she knew he was trying to ignore her because his actions showed otherwise. She went to run early morning daily and she noticed Dhruv not coming to the park in the society to run but instead went out of the society. She felt sad that he was trying to avoid her like a bug which would plague his life. She didn't do anything as such to deserve a treatment like that. She couldn't take it.
"God knows why I waited for two week and haven't set his mind right yet!" Naina threw her hands in the air. She walked out in her balcony as the mid-January sun shone above her and cool winds engulfed her. She kept her hands above her eyes to provide a shade as she looked up in the bright blue sky. A few kites were flying in the open clear sky. She could hear the laughter of the kids who tried to handle world's lightest thing with just a thread. Today she missed her sister and mother. They'd always prepare sweet delicacies on Makar Sankraanti. She still remembered the sweet smell of Tilgul she used to enjoy sitting in the kitchen while her mother and sister worked. She remembered the feel of the mixture of sesame seeds and jaggery rolling between her palms as she rounded them. Well at least she thought she did because even if she didn't, they won't tell her and she won't ever know because she was blind then.
She missed her Naanu as she looked at those little kites in the air which seemed to be floating to her eyes. Her Naanu used to take her to the beach in Goa, they'd find a secluded spot as he'd tell her to step carefully. She would feel the salty air of the sea and sand between her bare toes. She couldn't see but she could hear it in her naanu's voice how happy he was when he flew the kite. He would describe to her their surrounding and the motions of the kite. Once she had wanted to fly the kite as well and her naanu had let her hold that little piece of thread.
Naina looked at her fingers and tried to feel that heaviness of the thread as she had felt then when she had managed to hold the kite in the air for good one minute. She smiled as she remembered how Naanu had handled the kite after that as the winds took over and she let the thread go.
She smiled, putting her elbows on the railings in the balcony. "I wish you were here Naanu, I need you to handle a lot of things in my life, to handle me too, your Naina who is as delicate as that kite." She sighed, squinting her eyes and giving a last glance to the sky.
A lot has happened in her life since Naanu's death. She was still feeling that void of his absence. She was still broken by the betrayal Sameer caused her. She not only lost a good friend but also the feelings and effort she tried to put into their relationship. And that is why she didn't want any more of her relationships getting ruined. She wanted to cherish whatever was still in her life.
