Chapter - 15

Enough

All of the love you have given to the wrong people ---

It will find its way back to you.

Dhruv's frustration had reached it's boiling point.

It had been a week and two days that Naina sent that text to him about coming for him but she never showed up. And literally he had never seen her since that night they kissed and he saw her going away in the cab. Memories of those luscious lips moving against his haunted him days and nights. His attention was always divided no matter what he did. Whether he was in the gym or the bar at late nights, he was always dejected. People noticed and asked but he had nothing to say and nobody bothered really. The only friend in his life is Naina alone and she has not even stepped out of her flat even once in so many days.

He had crossed the line of being friends and being more than friends very subtly.

He threw his phone on the bed and stood in the middle of his bedroom, not knowing what to do. He couldn't go and face her surely. Because he sure had not seen Naina, but he had seen another girl maybe elder than Naina's age rush in and out of her door. He even caught glimpses of an older woman in her fifties, probably her mom, who kept sighing as she took a walk in the park each evening. He saw her when he returned from the gym to change for the bar. He had hoped to catch sight of Naina but she was nowhere. No calls or texts were exchanged.

That kiss had thrown him unbelievably out of his order and at that time he knew he was very cold to her and that was in no way fair. He wanted her to come and pick a fight with him but just talk to him. This absence of her was unsettling for him. He couldn't bring himself to initiate a chat or ring her doorbell out of guilt. He was ashamed of how he reacted after that mind blowing explosion of feelings inside him that night.

He sighed and sat on the bed, resting his elbows on his knees and joining his fingers around his neck as he bent his head in defeat. He knew something was very wrong. Why was her family here suddenly. He could feel the tension from the constant frowns on the face of Naina's sister maybe whence he saw her passing by. But there was no sign of Naina. She knew his routine and she might be stepping out when he wasn't around. But he had stayed home for the weekend in the hope of seeing her, still he couldn't see her anywhere. Multiple times in the day he would peek below in her balcony but she never sat out in the sun even.

Why would she not talk to him. He had been a jerk. He knew he affected her and she maybe liked him but this ignorance was what driving him crazy. He couldn't take it anymore. Few months back his life was empty when she'd not stepped into her life and he wallowed in his misery. But ever since she came she had intruded his spaces and marked the walls of his heart with her name. She was all he could think about these days and now that he had been so close to her, it was very hard for him to stay away.

There were times when he almost ran to her door but then those time he forced himself to go back home and take a cold shower.

This was insane. Life was playing a game with him. Yes he had loved Jessica so much at one time but now that she wasn't alive, he still saw her eyes on Naina. But the trouble was, the soul in those eyes was Naina's and that soul was the trouble because it had trapped him again in the waters of affection.

He had visited the church and confessed. He had lit a candle for Jess, for the first time with happiness because he saw the light, he understood that there was a chance of moving on maybe. He felt very grateful to God that day. A pair of dark chocolate brown eyes connected him to two of the most beautiful souls he had ever come across.
