The festival started the next day. My ears faintly registered Izuku's mom talking to him as I finished putting my shoes on in their living room. Today's a big day for everyone. Our chance to show the world our strength. Finishing with my shoes I stood and straightened my blazer, tossing the strap of my bag over my shoulder and ensuring that I had my earbuds packed away. This is going to be a long day.
Once we got to the school they gave us the uniforms Aizawa had given us on the first day, another reminder that I need to be stronger. After we all changed we were sent to a waiting room for our class.
My classmates were having conversations around me about various things and all I could do was let my stomach twist itself into a knot over whether or not I grabbed enough smoke this morning or not.
The door slamming open caused me to jump before I realized it was just Iida, "everyone, get your game faces on! We're entering the arena soon!" In another futile attempt to calm myself I started taking slow breaths and clenching and unclenching my fist. My eyes wandered around the room, finding Sara attempting to talk herself out of freaking out. Jiro was twirling her ear jack around her finger, attempting to give off a 'too cool to care vibe,' but the twitching told me the truth. Izuku was talking to himself when Todoroki broke me from my thoughts.
"Midoriya." My eyes found the situation, as did many of my classmates and the differences in the boys was almost entertaining.
"Hey, Todoroki. What's up?"
"From an objective standpoint, I think it's fairly clear that I'm stronger than you." My eyes narrow at the words, then I kick myself, mentally of course. He's earned the right to say that. He's shown it time and again, I haven't done anything.
"Uh-- um, yeah."
"However, you've got All Might in your corner, helping you out." Izuku needs a better poker face. Any time somebody mentions All Might and him having some sort of connection for a split second he reacts. "I'm not here to pry about what's going on between you two. But know that I will beat you."
Kaminari's voice from the other side of the room calls my attention. "What's with all these declarations of war lately?"
Kirishima seems to want to calm things down as he moves to put a hand on Todoroki's shoulder. "Yeah, what's the big deal? Why are you pickin' a fight all of a sudden? And right before we get started."
"We're not here to be each other's friends." Todoroki shrugs Kirishima's hand off. "Don't forget. This isn't a team effort."
"Wait a sec, Todoroki," Izuku calls out, putting a stop to Todoroki's movements. "I don't know what's going through your head or why you think you'd need to tell me that you'll beat me. And, yeah, of course, you're better than me. In fact, you probably have way more potential than anyone in the hero course. That's why you got in so easily."
"Midoriya, maybe you're being a little hard on yourself, and us." Kirishima butts in.
"No, he's right, you guys. All the other courses--they're coming for us with everything they've got. We're all gonna have to fight to stand out. And I'll be aiming for the top, too."
Todoroki turns to face the group again, "fine."

"Hey!" Present Mic's voice rings through the stadium. "Make some noise, all you rabid sports fans! Get those cameras prepped, media hordes! This year we're bringing you some of the hottest performances in sports festival history, guaranteed! I've only got one question before we start this show: Are you ready? Let me hear ya scream as our students make their way to the main stage!"
