Note: this story takes place after the retake of Wall Maria when the Survey Corps finally reach the sea. I suggest you watch the latest episode of AOT (the last episode of s3).
Y/N's P.O.V.
In front of Mikasa and Armin, there's Eren, finger pointing to the horizon.
I still can't process what happened during the last months.
Wall Maria has been retaken, Erwin and the whole SC have been almost completely wiped out. Luckily, before the mission, I had an accident, so I couldn't join the operation. That's how I managed to escape that massacre.
When the nine remaining soldiers came back, I was so happy to see that Levi was alive. Well, at least that was what I thought. Erwin's death left Levi shattered but after some time, he recovered.
We discovered the truth of this world, the cruel truth of a cruel world. Titans, humans, Eldia, Marley, ally, foe. This is too complicated for me.
I take a step and dip my foot in the water. It's so refreshing.
"I'd never thought I would be able to see something like this." Levi looks at the immense blue expanse before us. "I was sure I would have died alone in the underground or by the hand of a Titan..." The water reflects in his eyes and makes them sparkle. I sit down on the beach and look at Sasha and Connie pushing Jean until he falls.
"What is going to happen now?" I ask.
"What do you mean?" His reply sounds meaningless, he perfectly knows what I mean.
"What chance do we stand against the whole world? We don't even know a thing about the people outside this island. For them, we're just the demons that almost brought humanity to the extinction, how are we even going to deal with them?" I say this with no worry in my voice, as I still can't understand completely what all this is about.
"We'll... we'll manage to do something. We were able to come out of a hundred years of fear and humiliation, we defeated the ones that wanted to destroy us once for all. We'll find a way." He sits beside me and gives out a little chuckle. "This is the first time I don't see any optimism in you."
I sigh.
"What else should we sacrifice for the freedom we crave? We already gave everything: our lives, our friends, our loved ones..." I feel like I'm about to cry, but I have no tears to shed.
Levi doesn't reply and we sit there looking at the sky setting in the sea.
"Somewhere, someone is planning on fucking exterminating all of us for something our ancestor did." He closes his eyes and clenches his feet. "We're not involved in the shit those dickheads did decades ago, that's why we're not going to let the world easily wipe us out. We'll fight with all the strength we have, we'll give more than everything we've got. We will not surrender." He stands up and wields his blades.
"Is this answer enough for you?"
I smile.
He's right. No matter what it takes, we will go through this and come out victorious.
Isn't it the Survey Corps' way?
