Tarkik's POV.
She is a werewolf. My mate is a werewolf. That, however, does not take away from her beauty. Her coat is pure white and it seemed to glow like the moon and her eyes are light blue and can hypnotize me on the spot. But why a werewolf? How could a werewolf be made for me? Of course I did not expect her to be a werewolf, but I knew the bond was already beginning to seal and there is no escaping it now.
However, I could reject her and choose a second mate. That might be easier than trying to be with my werewolf mate, but I know she was made for me. I know it is fate for me to be mated to her. Plus, there would be no bond with a second mate and, from what I have heard, most times second mates end up leaving each other.
My eyes followed her body as the two werewolves, that I presumed to be on patrol, hoisted my mate onto the back of the larger werewolf. A low growl escaped my lips, earning a glance from both patrol werewolves. The larger werewolf, who had my mate on his back, took off running the opposite direction of me. The other werewolf scanned the area and checked the two bodies of the werewolves. I could see his confusion from here and I knew he could smell that I had been there and killed the werewolves. He continued to sniff around and then he looked across the river in confusion and curiosity.
Even though I knew I should leave and return to my own, I could not bring myself to move farther away from my mate. A group of five werewolves came to the scene and checked everything. Their noses swayed close to the ground, attempting to piece together what exactly had happened.
Eventually I grew tired of watching them search, so with one last glance, I turned and made my way back to base camp. Before entering camp, I took a deep breath. Each of my packmates gave me a head bow and continued whatever they had previously been doing.
Soon after entering camp, my gamma approached me and tilted her head for information regarding where I was. Before I left, I had told Ram and Blade, my beta and gamma, exactly what I was doing. How would they react? Ram would not accept it well. Maybe it is not the right time. I shook my head and sighed, acting like I did not find my mate. Blade frowned and I thought she saw through my lie, but then she shrugged, "you will find your mate soon."
I offered her a small smile. "I know. I just cannot wait for that day," I lied and changed the conversation, "what happened while I was gone?"
"Nothing really," Blade told me, "but patrols up north are getting disturbances from the werewolf pack, the Raw Power Pack. We have had trouble with that pack before, so I think we need to be cautious on this one." She had good reasoning to be cautious. That pack needs a warning so we will give them one, but I am not quite sure what to do as a warning. Personally, I do not prefer to kill, but I do what has to be done.
I nodded, showing my understanding and agreement. "I will think of a warning for that pack. If you think of any of your own ideas, feel free to let me know," I replied. She bowed her head before turning and trotting off.
My paws carried me to the river, Snake River as the humans called it, to get a drink. The cold water calms me. My mate is a werewolf. The thought continued to repeat in my head. I still was not quite sure how to react because she is my mate and a different species.
A distant howl ripped through my thoughts. I immediately recognized the howl is a distress howl from Flare, a patrol wolf, saying his patrol partner is down. The howl of a wolf always sends a message and each howl is unique, allowing me to identify who howled. This only works for those within my pack. Much like how werewolves have telepathic communication with those only within their pack. Wolf packs can only understand their own packmates howls and can hear their packmates howls from longer distances than any other creature or thing.
