Day 2: Thunderstorms Scare Dollies Too

Ever since she was two years old, my daughter, Maggie, has been terrified of thunderstorms.

My husband and I bought Maggie a small doll to help her not be as scared when the "Boom, Booms," as she would call them, came around.

However, if a thunderstorm came during the night, Maggie would soon find her way into our bed for comfort, leaving her dolly behind in her room.

This went on for several years.

So, as you could imagine, I wasn't at all surprised when one night, shortly after I was awakened by a bright flash of lightning followed by a loud clap of thunder, I heard our bedroom door open and close then felt the familiar tug on the bed covers.

I scooted closer to my husband to make room for Maggie and softly told her to climb into bed. I felt her climb up and snuggle close to my back. Once she was settled in, I quickly dozed off to sleep again.

This time something was odd when I woke up a few minutes later to the sound of the bedroom door opening and closing again. I heard the faint sound of little feet tip-toing across the room to the bed.

My blood froze when I heard Maggie's little voice ask, "Mommy, why is my dolly on your bed?"

I guess thunderstorms scare dollies too.
