Ring! Ring!

"Hey, Mom." I answered the phone while I cooked my dinner on the stove.

"Hi, sweetie. I was just calling to let you know that we plan on being at your place by five tomorrow evening. Is that a good time for you?"

"That's perfect, it'll give me plenty of time to get ready. I can't wait to see yours and Ryan's costumes. Ryan does have his costume picked out right?" I removed my food from the hot stove and put it on a plate while I continued talking with my mom.

I heard her chuckle on the other end before she replied. "Yes, he does. It took your brother most of the month to finally figure out what he wanted to be this year."

I let out a short laugh in response as I went to sit at the table, my plate of food in hand. "That's good, at least he figured it out before the party and not last minute like last year. What time does the Halloween party start again?"

"It starts at six, so we'll have plenty of time to drive to your aunt Mary's house after we've picked you up."

"Awesome." I was about to sit down at the kitchen table when I noticed a man standing about fifteen feet from my sliding glass door. I could just barely make him out in the darkness. I froze and stared at him not wanting to take my eyes off of him.

"Your father actually decided that he's going to tag along this year, he even picked out a costume and everything." My mom continued speaking, not yet aware of my silence.

I didn't respond and continued staring at the man who was just standing there, staring back.

"Jessica? You still there?"

"Uh, yeah, I'm here. But I think I'm going to have to call you back."

"Why? What's wrong?"

"There's a man in my backyard. I'm going to call the police." I stated. Just then I spotted my dog, Buster, standing outside too with his back to the door.

I hear my mom gasp. "Make sure all your doors and windows are locked." Fear and concern filled her voice.

"I planned on checking those next." That's when Buster started barking and my blood ran cold. He was barking at the man from the room behind me. That's when I realized I was seeing reflections.

I gasped and whipped around to face the direction Buster was barking. To my surprise, all I found was my empty living room and Buster barking at nothing but air. However, I could feel the man's presence standing in the other room watching me.

"Jessica! Jessica, are you alright!"

I heard my mom shouting in my ear, snapping me back into reality. "Y-Yeah, I'm fine. But I don't think the police can do anything about that guy, turns out I may need to call a priest."
