chapter song inspo: me, the 1975
I think I did something terrible to your body, don't you mind...
Billie's POV:
"I did something bad," Hannah blurts out as soon as I shut the door to our new room. Part of me feels scared but an even bigger part hopes that she messed up more than I did so that maybe I can tell her the truth.
She plays with the strings of a hoodie and carries a shy smile. Her cheeks tinge with red as I walk closer to her and raise an eyebrow for her to go on. I fall backward on the bed and hope to actually get some sleep tonight for the first time in two days. Tilting my head up to catch a glimpse of her, I see Hannah grin as she pulls something out of her bag.
"Okay, so I may have stolen these off the plane when you weren't looking, but I mean it's technically yours because you probably paid for it somehow, right?" Hannah tries to explain the bottles of alcohol she laid out on the bed. I don't drink at all, to be honest, and I'm not sure if its the best idea right now.
"Please say something," Hannah pulls me out of my thoughts. I start to sit up when she moves her bag to the floor and I look closer at what hoodie she's wearing. More like who's. She notices my stare and blushes.
"Oh, yeah, you took it off on the plane and I got really cold, so I borrowed it, if that's okay?"
I can't focus on what she's saying because all I can think about is what's in the pocket. I try to not look nervous but I need to say or do something to distract her. Grabbing one of the bottles, I twist off the cap and take a drink, almost coughing it right up immediately.
"Cheers," I tip it towards her, and her hand wraps around the bottle. She takes a long sip without reacting and I raise an eyebrow at her suspiciously. Hannah smirks and shrugs her shoulders in response, and I slip my hands around her waist. She's still standing while I'm kneeling on top of the bed, and she starts to lose balance and leans into me for a kiss.
I go with it, leaving one hand on her waist while the other holds her chin. Slowly, I try to slip my hand in the front pocket of the hoodie without her really paying attention to it, when she pushes a hand on my chest and grabs my wrist with the other.
"What are yo--"
I crumple up the post-it between my fingers while she tries to pry it out of them.
"It's just a piece of trash I remembered I left in there, it's nothin', mamas," I reassure her. I toss it to the floor and place my hands on the back of her neck to pull her in for another kiss. Hannah slips out of my grasp and races to pick it off the floor.
Fuck.
She takes another long drink from the bottle, and unfolds the paper, and the look on her face kills me. Hannah looks so excited, like she uncovered a secret and can't wait to figure it out. I know I'm done for so I pull my knees into my chest, keeping my eyes to one of my rings that I twirl around my finger.
"Billie."
She says my name like it's a question, like she's unsure of me. I usually feel warm and giddy when she says my name but now all I feel is cold.
"What. Is. This." She takes little pauses in between words, stepping closer to me until she's standing over my shoulder. I slowly turn my head up, already on the verge of tears, when I meet her eyes. It's like she already understands but wants me to say it. When I don't respond right away, her jaw clenches up and she slaps the post-it in my hand face up for me to see.
"You asked me if I trust you and I told you that I did," Hannah fills the silence in the air. I look up at her through foggy vision.
"Did?" I echo back, my fingertips skimming over the edges of the paper in my hand.
