It was one of those days. At least for Mycroft it was.
Greg had somehow managed to convince him to go to a swimming pool. Admittedly it was the middle of July and he'd been complaining about the endless heat but he hadn't expected to actually do anything about it.
Now though, as Mycroft sat on one of the sun beds and watched his shirtless boyfriend swimming around in the pool, he didn't think it was such a terrible idea.
It was an outside pool, a public one. It was fairly quiet though. They were the only one's there, much to Greg's surprise. Mycroft hadn't been surprised seeing as he'd arranged for that to be so. If he was going outside shirtless, no one was going to witness that. Expect Gregory, because it was nothing he hadn't seen before, at least that's how he put it.
"You could have read at home y'know." Greg was at the edge of the pool, his arms crossed up on the side to support himself. "We came out here to swim."
"You came out here to swim. I came out here because you're utterly lost without me." Mycroft responded dryly as he turned the page of his book.
"That's what you think..." Greg muttered to himself. "Put the book down. Come on Myc, join me pleeasse."
Mycroft shook his head. "I'm ok thank you Gregory, but you have fun."
If Mycroft was going to speak to him like a child, then Greg was going to act like one. He flicked some water in Mycroft's general direction, not enough to get him all that wet though.
Mycroft instinctively lifted up the book he was holding so that it wouldn't get wet but that was a big mistake, because as soon as he did a bucket load of water was splashed onto him. "Gregory!"
Greg was already away for the edge and in the middle of the pool. If Mycroft wanted revenge he'd have to come and get it.
Mycroft knew exactly what game it was that his boyfriend was playing but he decided to let him win anyway. He got up and headed for the water, once there he slowly put his foot in. "Gracious, that's cold." He uttered before cautiously lowering himself into the water, halfway through he slipped though and ended up in the water a lot sooner than he would have liked. "Good heavens!"
Greg was by his side almost as soon as it had happened. "Are you alright?"
"Don't ever speak of this again Gregory." Mycroft replied, hair clinging to his forehead, just as he was clinging to the edge of the pool.
Greg chuckled to himself, satisfied that his boyfriend was fine. "At least you're in now, come on." He said swimming out a little way and inviting Mycroft to join him.
Mycroft was not keen on the idea. "If it's all the same I think I'll stay here."
"Suit yourself." Greg replied quickly as he swam away, being sure to splash his boyfriend as he left.
Mycroft wasn't the best swimmer, he'd only ever learnt because eventually he might have to, but right now he decided to put his limited skills to use and swim after Gregory. (Who had purposely stayed near the shallow end so Mycroft could catch up to him.)
It took him a little longer than he would have liked, and eventually Greg had to meet him halfway, but Mycroft was finally close enough to splash his boyfriend back. Which he did without too much difficulty.
Greg just laughed like a giddy child and splashed Mycroft back, soon they were in some kind of... splashing-war? That's close enough. After a while they'd moved further out, Greg was teasing Mycroft by swimming very close to him and then going underwater before he could be splashed.
Eventually Greg got a bit too cocky, allowing Mycroft to grab his arm and easily pull him closer. Greg squirmed and giggled, like the adorable idiot he is, before the grip on his arm was less of a strong hold and more of a tender touch.
They looked into each others eyes while they stood as close as possible. Well Mycroft was just about standing, and Greg was treading water but it's almost the same thing.
"Feeling any cooler Myc?"
Mycroft observed how close the two were and swallowed thickly. "Not particularly, no."
Greg smirked. "Looks like you got in the water for nothing then."
"Not exactly..." Mycroft replied, his eyes darting to Greg's lips.
"Oh? And what is it here that's so worth while?"
"Do you want me to say it or can I just kiss you?"
Greg smiled widely up at the other man. "I mean, if that's what you wan-" He was cut off by Mycroft's lips on his. A little startling evident by the slight blush that had spread over his cheeks, but not at all unpleasant. After a few seconds he melted into it and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend's neck. He had to kick his legs a little harder to stay afloat but he didn't mind too much.
Mycroft smiled triumphantly when he saw Greg's blush. He moved his hands from the other man's arms and down to his waist where he could feel the strong muscles at work to keep him afloat. Now it was Mycroft's turn to blush.
The kiss lasted quite a while, neither man was in any sort of rush to end it. It was slow and lazy, but it was also very hot so they had an excuse. After a few minutes, and the no petting rule well and truly broken, they parted for air.
"Is the lifeguard one for your men?"
"Don't ruin the moment, love."
"He just sat there and let that happen. It's good there are no kids around."
Mycroft placed a light kiss on Greg's cheek. "Shush."
Greg gave a small nod and stayed quiet while they caught their breath. Greg's arms were still around Mycroft's neck, and Mycroft's forehead was now resting against Greg's.
"Are you glad I dragged you here now?" Greg couldn't help himself, being quite was never his strong point.
"Perhaps. We could have kissed at home though."
"Hypocrite."
Mycroft chuckled softly and closed his eyes to soak in the moment. "I love you Gregory."
"I love you too Myc."
