Prologue

2023 ― Brooklyn, New York
"I'm not ready and I don't know if I ever will be again."

EIGHT MONTHS HAVE PASSED since the Avengers defeated Thanos for good.

It's been eight months since everyone who was disintegrated in Thanos' snap was brought back by the snap of Bruce Banner. It's been eight months since the Avengers facility was blown up and they all fought the battle of a lifetime against aliens to make sure that Thanos didn't kill half of life for a second time. It's been eight months since Natasha Romanoff went to Vormir with Clint Barton and Nikita Romanoff and didn't come back.

It's been eight months since Tony Stark sacrificed himself to save the world.

The Rogers family settled down in Brooklyn, New York like Steve always wanted to. After returning the Infinity Stones to their rightful time periods, Katherine and Steve came back from the past and retired their Avenging, they just wanted to live with their kids, and Katherine couldn't fathom going back into battle anymore.

She was still devastated about losing Tony and Natasha.

A couple of times a month, the brunette went out to the secluded home where Pepper and Morgan Stark still live. She sits with Pepper, they share some wine, they talk, she makes sure that Pepper is okay, and then she spends some time with Morgan. A lot of the time, Amaya and Christian go with her because Morgan absolutely adores them. Both Katherine and Pepper need that time together, it helps their healing.

Amaya knew her mom was still devastated about Natasha in a different way. Nikita and Thor had left and gone with Rocket and the rest of the Guardians. Nikita said after losing her sister, she couldn't stay on Earth, she needed time away, and she needed time with Thor, but she said their wedding will be on Earth. Amaya helped her mom buy Natasha a headstone and have it set up, even though her body was never retrieved thinking that it would help her mom let go.

Amaya wished she could make it better for her.

Steve Rogers had retrieved the original shield that Howard Stark made for him in the 40s when he and Katherine returned the infinity stones since his shield was cracked by Thanos in battle. He gave it over to Sam Wilson sealing his retirement so he could live his life with his family.

Christian and Wanda had also been spending a lot of time together.

Since Christian Rogers lost five years with his family and his girlfriend, he didn't want to be too far away from either of them, for a long time. Katherine figured they all lived together before in the Avengers facility, she didn't mind Wanda living with them. She and Christian had their own 'mini-apartment' that was outside and on the lower level of where the rest of his family lived.

Amaya, on the other hand, was devastated for the five years without her brother, and without Peter. When they both showed up on the battlefield she was so overwhelmed with emotions that she almost forgot to fight. For the last eight months, she and Peter were getting their rhythm back as a couple, and Amaya fell in love with him all over again.

Now she just wanted to tell him.

She was also finishing up school. After everyone came back, they made them start the school year over, and there were only a couple of days left. Then, Amaya and Peter's science class were going on a trip for the summer, the trip she was packing for. In the last 8 months, she's grown a lot closer to Ned and MJ. MJ still didn't know that Peter was Spider-Man or that she was known as The Sapphire Witch, but she was growing suspicious.

Since she and Christian had reached the mental capacity of adults, their aging has now leveled off and like their parents, they would age slowly. Even though Amaya was here during the five years, she still looks young enough to be a high school student, so that's what she wanted to do. She wasn't going to tell anyone she wasn't 'blipped' as people were calling it.
