Kayla's POV

It's been about an hour since the herd came through the empty town while we were doing an run. We were still stuck on the roof looking for a way to get down. I got up from my position looking down at the street of walkers and the alley Carl and I ran down.

"See anything?" I asked Carl who looking down the alley.

"No...just a bunch of dead people." He sighed throwing a can at one the walkers head. I looked over at the other roof top where Rosita and Abraham climbed on, but they were no longer which means they found a way down.

"Fuck." I mumbled to myself looking at the dead flesh hanging from the walkers.

"You okay?" Carl asked rubbing circles on my back.

"Yeah I'm fine." I said brushing it off crossing my arms over my chest.

"Are you sure? You don't look so good..." Carl asked concerned.

"I'm fucking fine!" I snapped walking to the other side of the roof then that's when everything went dark.

"KAYLA!!" Carl shouted looking down the hole I fell down.

My eyes fluttered open I looked around sitting up slowly realizing I was in mattress shore. I got up dusting my clothes off and checking my surrounding as I took my gun from my holster. Apparently the roof collapsed on me as I tried to walk away from Carl.

"KAYLA!!" Carl shouted once again as he saw I was gone.

I ran back to the hole I fell down looking up at him smiling. "Hey, I'm fine lower your voice." I said shushing him.

"Fuck you scared the shit out of me." Carl said holding a hand over his heart.

"Well wasn't my intention to fall." I chuckled looking up at him.

"Any way I can get down there?" Carl asked looking through the not so big hole.

"Um...." I said looking around seeing a few mattresses.

"Yeah there is a way but I have to move the mattresses under the hole so you can jump." I informed him then stacking the mattresses one by one under the hole.

"Okay, I think it's steady enough for you to jump down now." I whispered shouted up to Carl.

With no hesitation he jumped down landing on the 3 stacked mattresses laughing.

"That was fun." He laughed getting up fixing his sheriff hat.

"There, that's our way out." I said pointing at the clear path in front of the shop. It was risky due to walkers being around but it seemed to be the only way. We moved the chair that was blocking the front door and cracking it just a bit to get a better view.

"Here's the plan we knock out those four walkers right there that's surrounding that path going into the woods and make a run for it. Okay?" Carl explained pulling his gun out his holster.

"Okay." I said linking our hands together before he flung the door open as we made a run for it. The walkers on the street started making their way towards us so we had to move fast. Carl shot the two walkers on the left and I shot the two walkers on right. We made our way into the woods running until we couldn't hear the groans of the walkers.

"Shit!" I said stopping to catch my breathe.

"We can start walking now they shouldn't be near us now." Carl said wiping the sweat of his forehead.

"Do you think the others made it out?" I asked worried.

"I believe so they are fighters, so most likely they made it out." Carl assured with a small smile.

"Come let's go home sheriff Grimes." I chuckled holding onto his hand as we walked back to Alexandria.
