The Reception (Part 2)

I look over at Alyssa, she has a terrified look on her face. I take her hand. "It's gonna be okay." I whisper to her.

"You don't know her like I do, after 11 years of knowing her, she knows all my secrets." She says.

I give her a concerned look and before I can say anything Grace start talking. I squeeze her hand and smile at her. She weakly smiles back.

"Paper." Grace says.

"Christ." I hear Alyssa say.

"That's just one inside joke we have that we are gonna explain tonight. As well as tell stories that will embarrass the bride here." She says. "Your welcome." She ads.

"Our freshman year of high school we went to the premiere of the movie "After". We had a nice time but got there late, so we had to get our popcorn and snacks and run to the theater. The movie had just about started and their wasn't a good time to open snacks without making a lot of noise."  Grace starts.

I see Alyssa bury her head in her hands.

"The movie went on and Allie finally wanted to open her bag of M&M's. She was opening them and trying really hard not to make any noise. She wasn't paying attention. Then the main character pulled out a condom." Grace continues.

Alyssa's head is now on the table.

"The scene switched so you could only see a little bit of it. She then looked up. She leaned over to me and asked 'why is he holding up a piece of paper?' Me and Grace started dying of laughter."

I look at Alyssa again, she is now holding up her left hand to the guests and pointing her middle finger up at Grace but only so she could see it. Grace looks over and laughs.

"Alyssa has been embarrassed ever since." Grace added at the end. "And she always blames it on the M&M's."

"I DIDN'T WANT SPILL THE FOOD!" Alyssa yells.

"Sure." She says sarcastically. Everybody in the room is laughing, I'm trying not to, to support her. But I just can't not laugh.

The girls continue to talk and tell a few more stories.

"I have one more story." Grace says.

"Why?" Alyssa asks looking up at the sky. She is half way under the table.

"There was this one time when she was trying to prove to us that she wasn't clumsy. And she did a pretty good job until she tripped over thin air, rolled her ankle and fell into a pile of mud." She says.

Everyone in the room is still laughing at all the stories.

"Okay, I'm gonna end this now. But in all seriousness, I hope this works out between you too." Grace says.

"One more thing." She looked me dead in the eye. "If you hurt her, you will not only have to deal with her father, who knows how to use a gun. But you will have to deal with me too and you do not want to be on bad side." She pauses then looks back out to everybody. "Thank you everyone. To Alyssa and Daniel!"

I look over at Alyssa and she is gone. I look around then under the table.

"Are you okay?" I say through laughs.

"I'm mortified." She says. "I think I might just live here the rest of my life."

I laugh. "Nah, then I couldn't get to know you."

She groans and smiles at me. "Fine." She gets up. She sits back in the chair. We all eat for a bit and listen to music.

Eventually the DJ says, "It's time for the father daughter dance."
