ELLA'S POV
Finally I heard Nick's soft snores beside me.
It was time.
I rolled over as slowly as possible, and pressed my foot down gently on the floor. I felt lucky it wasn't old wood, because it didn't creak very much when I walked to the bathroom.
I opened the cabinet under the sink and my heart stopped when the toilet paper packaging crinkled loudly as I lifted it up to get the gun.
I put it down swiftly, tucking the gun in my waist and and opening the door a bit to look at Nick. Thankfully he was still sound asleep.
Now came the hard part.
I lifted the lock on the window and cranked it open, lifting myself up to sit on the ledge, my feet dangling down.
The cool night breeze brushed against my face, and I thought about everything that was about to happen.
I might kill the man who ruined my life, or he may kill me. Either way, at least this situation would finally come to an end.
I hopped off the ledge without thinking about it for another second, and I fell for a while before thumping onto the grass. It hurt a bit, but the adrenaline made me feel unstoppable.
I made sure the gun was safe, and pulled out my phone to get directions to the train station.
It was an hour long walk, so I'd better start running.
I sprinted as fast as I could away from the pack house, luckily the route to the station was pretty much going straight east for a while.
I kept looking behind me, part of me expecting Nick to be chasing after me in his wolf form or something.
But there was no one. Only a couple windows were lit up and ours wasn't one. Eventually I was deeper in the woods, and my sprinting slowed to a jog.
Trees kept passing behind me, and eventually I couldn't see the house anymore.
I thought about all that could happen as I jogged.
What if Nick woke up and realized I was gone?
What was going to happen when he found me?
I'd be foolish to think he wouldn't find me. I was his mate and he had my scent and our bond would always pull me to him, so it meant I had a limited time to get this done.
It gave me anxiety thinking about what Nick was going to say about this. He'd be furious.
It was worth it though, because I wouldn't get closure until I brought Syd justice. And I just couldn't trust Nick's troops to do that.
The clock read 12:13 A.M.
Eventually I emerged from the woods and followed a long a road, walking for what seemed like forever.
By the time I got to the train station it was 12:48 A.M.
I put my hood up and walked to the desk.
"What can I do for you, dear?" the small old lady behind the desk asked.
"One way ticket to Bannack." I felt my voice shake slightly and I took a deep breath as she printed the ticket and took my money.
"You're all set. Safe travels" she smiled sweetly and I went to the bench to sit and wait for train B.
It came to a screeching halt on the tracks right on time, 1:30 A.M.
The door opened and a man opened the door. I climbed up the steps and took a seat in one of the left rows.
There were only a couple of other people on the train, one was an elderly couple with a pile of suitcases, and another was a sleeping man.
"Alright passengers, our next stop is Bannack," the conductor said over the static radio.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
It wasn't all that far when you were going 90 miles per hour on a train, quite frankly.
The ride there would take a little under an hour, and I needed to think about where I was going to find Syd.
My first bet was that he'd be on the side of some old road, trying to recruit new rogues or capture more victims.
But then I recalled that there was a bar I had seen him come out of in my way home from my internship before.
I knew it was him because he always gave me creepy vibes, and he had an unforgettable scar across his nose.
More time passed and the train slowed down, eventually moving to a complete stop and the door opened.
I walked out and made a beeline for the train station exit. There were always taxis waiting for travelers outside, even at the crack of dawn.
I hailed one and hopped in the back.
"The Bar on Ford street?" I said hopefully.
"Finn's? No problem, sweetheart." the cab driver said in a raspy smoker's voice.
I checked my phone and saw no messages from Nick.... yet.
NICK'S POV
I woke up stirring in the middle of the night.
For some reason I couldn't sleep.
I stretched my arms a bit and looked over to Ella's side of the bed.
She was gone.
"Ella?" I said aloud, turning on my lamp. The bathroom door was shut, and I immediately went over to open it.
The window was open.
I dialed security's number on my cell phone and waited as it rung.
"I need the footage from the last 4 hours from every exterior camera." I said, going to my closet and pulling on a shirt before abruptly hanging up.
I stormed downstairs.
What the fuck was she thinking?
Why the hell did she want to escape?
I called an emergency meeting and soon my executives met in the control room.
"Alpha, we found footage from around 12:15 that shows her jumping out of the window and running East." one of them said.
"We think she went to the train station, we have someone speaking to them now about who they sold tickets to tonight." another said calmly.
Anger was taking over my brain and my blood was boiling.
"She was on a 1:30 train to Bannack." the same one said, reading his screen.
I glanced over to the wall of weapons and noticed a small handgun was missing. Then it hit me.
She went to get Syd.
She was going to get herself killed.
