NICK'S POV
I kept my arm around my mate's waist firmly as I led her to the ball room. Despite her attempts to pull away, I was much stronger and I had to make sure everyone knew she was mine, especially with her wearing that god damned dress.
"All you have to do is smile and say nice to meet you, sweet mate." I reassured her. She flipped her blonde hair over her shoulder and ignored me. So that's how she wanted to play it.
I reached her arms up over her head and pinned her against the wall all at once and got my face as close as I could to hers, her breathing rate increasing rapidly.
"Just smile and say 'nice to meet you', is that understood?" I growled against her cheek.
"Yes," she practically whimpered. I felt my cock twitch at her little voice obeying me, and then let go of her arms and brought mine around her waist once more as the elevator doors opened.
There were at least 500 wolves in the ballroom, all dressed up and excited to meet their Luna. I wished she was as excited to meet them.
Everyone stared in awe as we entered the room, and I held her impossibly closer to me as we walked. I kept a stern look on my face and led her to the main table.
I gestured for her to take a seat next to the head of the table and she quietly obliged. All of the wolves attention was on her, and I grabbed the microphone and directed it towards myself.
"Hello, everyone," I started as I had done many times when I spoke to my public pack.
"Thank you all for being here. As you know I've finally found my mate, and I'm overjoyed to introduce her to you all." I smiled at Ella. She gave me a fake smile back.
At least she was trying to pretend for me, and that meant a lot after I was such a jerk.
"This is Ella, your new Alpha Female." I said into the microphone, gesturing for her to come over.
She stood up and applause erupted from the crowd. I looked her up and down. She was perfect.
She was gorgeous and strong-headed and mysterious, and I knew looking at her that she was the only one for me.
I wrapped my arm around her waist once again as she joined me by the microphone. Her small hand reached for the microphone and I felt sheer terror for the moment.
She brought it up to her lips and I thought about all of the things she could say. I made her mad earlier, I only prayed she was smart enough to not make a scene.
"Thank you," she started in her sweet little voice.
"I just wanted to say that I'm honored to be welcomed into this pack, and I'm going to try to do my absolute best for you all." she said happily. She smiled and the pack clapped profusely another round.
She really was something. We went back to the table and many wolves flooded to talk to me. Ella was getting her own little crowd too, and I gave her a thankful look before we broke eye contact and gave into the public questions.
ELLA'S POV
"How did you meet Alpha Nick?" a woman in a sparkly red dress asked me while another tapped my shoulder.
I was being bombarded and I hated it. I just did Nick the biggest favor after he told me last minute about this damn dinner.
And the worst part was I was so incredibly angry at him, but all I wanted to do was crawl into his arms and kiss him.
"I'm sorry," I excused myself from the table and walked in the other direction, hoping to find somewhere I could be at peace for the moment. People started to back off as they saw me walking and I was relieved I wasn't still the target of everyone's attention.
"That was great, Ella." a familiar voice said from beside me. I turned around and saw Nick's beta, Alex, wearing a suit and tie.
"Oh, thank you." I smiled.
"I know he sucks sometimes but, I've never seen him like this until you came." he smiled.
"Thank you for saying that," I sighed.
"I honestly haven't felt this way since I met him either. This is just so much all at once." I said tiredly.
"You're handling it very well, all things considered." he said reassuringly. I thanked him again and headed towards the hall.
Finally I found a bathroom, thank god, and went to look in the mirror. I still looked fine despite feeling like a nervous wreck.
"Luna." a wolf walked out from one of the stalls and bowed to me.
I was weirded out, no one else bowed to me back in the ball room. Was that something they did? I wasn't royalty or anything.
"You're honestly doing great." she smirked, and her voice was taunting.
"For a human." she said the word human with disgust, and proceeded to look me up and down like I was scum on the bottom of her shoe. Now I understood what was going on.
"Er-thanks." I said quietly, trying to ignore her and turning back to the mirror. I really didn't care that much what she thought about me, even though it hurt that the fact I was a human made a difference to them.
I would always be just a human.
"And that dress, what a statement piece." she chuckled.
"It totally says 'Hey, I'm your new slutty Luna'," she snarled. I took a deep breath and turned back to her.
"I'm sorry you think that." I said calmly.
"You know you're not gonna last a week in here, right?" she just kept egging me on.
"I've lasted far longer in far worse." I dusted my dress off.
"Wow, you're conceited aren't you?" she retorted.
"Have fun being the human Luna nobody actually wants." she chuckled and turned around.
I felt fire erupt in my lungs and my skin was burning up. I was in such an intense rage and before I knew it, my hand was gripping the hair on her scalp and my fist was pounding her cheek, over and over.
She screamed and scratched my arm off of her to return the punch, a feeling I knew all too well. My jaw felt bruised and it only made me hit her harder, but this time I directed all of my force from my arm to her stomach.
She fell to the floor and gasped for breath.
That's when the guards came in.
