ELLA'S POV

My heart sank when I heard him say it.

How the hell did Syd escape? Why just him?

Nick started walking towards the room the others were being held, and the General and I followed him.

He pulled the door open aggressively and slammed it behind us.

"Alright, I have steel doors and security at every single exit so someone better start explaining who has the powers." Nick barked.

"It's Hunter," I pointed to Hunter, his green eyes wide open at Nick's sudden intrusion.

"Where did you transport him to?" Nick growled.

It was all very loud and intense, and the rogues smelled foul. A mix of body odor and dust settles in my nose.

After Hunter neglected to talk, Nick had two of his guards come grab the chair.

I looked around frantically as we exited the control room, and Nick and the guards carried Hunter out to a different room.

"We'll find him." the General reassured me.

I wasn't so sure. I started walking out when I noticed it again.

The weapon wall.

No one was looking at me anymore, their attention had all turned to the big screen at the front of the room. It was the perfect time...

I opened the glass door fast but quietly, and grabbed the first gun I saw. A good-sized black pistol.

I was thankful that this cardigan had pockets inside. I slid it in and then exited unnoticeably, returning to our room.

The gun was heavy, and I tried to figure out a place to hide it where Nick wouldn't look. I went to the bathroom and opened the cabinet underneath the sink.

There was a large package of tissue boxes, so I slid the gun under and hoped it would be okay tonight. As for escaping without any guards notifying Nick, the bathroom window opened, and it wasn't that far of a jump...

I knew this was probably a bad idea, but I couldn't trust Nick to find Syd while he walked free probably collecting more victims.

I was gonna have to do it myself.

I knew Nick was going to find out I left after I did it, but the important thing was to buy myself time.

I'd have to wait until he fell asleep tonight, then sneak to the bathroom, get the gun and hop out the window. Hopefully he wouldn't realize I was gone until morning.

As for now, I sat and thought about where Syd would be. And I think I knew exactly what he was doing.

Hours passed and I started to wonder why Nick wasn't back, until finally the door handle turned.

I stood up to greet him, trying not to act nervous. But how could I not? There was a gun under our sink!

Nick's hands were slightly bloody, and he immediately walked into the bathroom. My heart skipped a beat, but then he turned on the water and began to wash his hands.
