Audra's P.O.V.
"Audra!" I snapped out of my dazed state and looked at my brother who held a worried look on his face.
"Are you ok to work today? You keep zoning out?" he questioned me while walking over to me and feeling my forehead just to make sure I wasn't running a fever or anything.
I smacked his hand and playfully glared at him before turning around and getting back to work. Honestly, I had a feeling like I was being watched since I walked out of the house, but I wasn't going to inform my brother for fear of him locking me inside the house.
As the day progressed, my uneasy feeling of being watched never went away. I wasn't sure what it could have been, but I made sure to keep on my guard all day just in case something happened. I couldn't really imagine anything happening at the café though.
I was also able to find a long white sleeve shirt, even though it's summer time, and wear that to work with the excuse that my laundry was still wet. I had to cover up my arm until it was fully healed or else dad and Grayson would get all protective and not let me even see the sunlight.
I'm grateful that they're letting me even work in the café with all the craziness that has been going on. The old sweet lady with many stories to tell was back in our café. The only weird thing was that she wasn't very talkative lately, but I couldn't understand why. She didn't come into the café until later in the day when things were starting to slow down after lunch time.
It was almost time for me and Grayson to be done and I was grateful for that. The sun was still out, but it looked like some clouds would be rolling in soon. The weather did say it was suppose to rain at some point today.
"Would you be a sweetheart and get me another cup of tea?" the old lady asked while I was wiping down tables.
"Sure," I said with a smile. I pushed my hair back out of my face and made my way to the back to quickly get her some tea.
I placed the tea on the table and the old lady frowned at me before saying, "You should really take care of your elbow, you need a new band aid sweetie."
I was surprised until I looked down at my arm to somehow see my wound open back up again. There was a little bit of blood coming through the band aid and going onto my shirt, and I was glad that it was the end of the shift.
"Thank you ma'am," I said while going to the next table to finish cleaning it before I left for the day.
"Don't stay out too late dear," the woman said before she started drinking her tea. I gave her a smile before heading to the back to put everything away and punch out. Grayson was right behind me with punching out and we quickly grabbed our stuff before we started walking home.
"Man I can't believe someone was killed here," Grayson murmured as we walked past the alley way where there was still police tape up.
"Me either," I said, still wondering what could have happened. Then again, curiosity did kill that cat and I should probably mind my own business when it comes to stuff like this. This is why my dad and brother don't want me out late or by myself, they're afraid that someone with a knife could hurt me.
I was so lost in thought that I didn't see a piece of the sidewalk lifted up higher than the other and I ended up tripping right on it. Grayson didn't have enough time to react and catch me, so I ended up landing on my hands and scrapping them up pretty good.
"Audra," Grayson said while helping me up. He took a nice look at my hands and noticed that they were bleeding while I still had pebbles on my hands.
