Audra's P.O.V.
Grayson had to run out with dad somewhere real quick and it was just me and Anthony in the cafe. I was currently washing any dishes that needed to be cleaned since it was the end of the day and there were no customers here.
Anthony had his earbuds in and I could faintly hear the music while he was helping me wash the dishes. I quickly dried my hands and shuffled around in my pocket for my own earbuds since it looked like no one was coming in.
I looked for a song called Life is a Highway. Ever since Grayson and I watched Cars I've been in love with the song. I closed my eyes and sung a little while cleaning the dishes.
Life's like a road that you travel on
When there's one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend and sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the windThere's a world outside every darkened door
Where blues won't haunt you anymore
Where brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shoreWe won't hesitate
To break down the garden gate
There's not much time left todayLife is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way
I wanna drive it all night longThrough all these cities and all these towns
It's in my blood, and it's all around
I love you now like I loved you then
This is the road, and these are the handsI stopped singing as I heard the doorbell chime. I turned around and saw Grayson and dad just standing right in front of the door. I threw them a confused look and quickly took my one earbud out that was still playing the music.
"Grayson? Dad?" I questioned while walking closer to them, a little confused on why they stopped walking and didn't seem to be moving either.
I waved my hand in front of them and neither one of them blinked. I could feel my heart starting to accelerate out of fear.
"If this is a joke it's not funny," I stated, letting them know that I didn't like this prank one bit.
"It's not a prank Audra," a voice I recognized said. The bell had chimmed and neither of them still moved. I turned to the doorway and noticed that it was Thara.
"What's wrong with them?" I questioned, hoping she might know what was going on.
"Did you sing?" she questioned, not even bothering to answer my question.
"Yea, I always sing when I wash the dishes," I explained, not really understanding what that had to do with anything.
"They must have heard you singing and must be under your spell," she explained while I threw her a confused look.
"My spell?" I questioned, sounding weird coming off of my lips. Thara walked up to me and her hand reached for my neck. I wasn't sure what she was doing until she pulled out the glowing crystal necklace that she had given me. The only difference was the crystal seemed to be glowing, but I had no idea that the necklace could even do that.
"Yes, the song of a Siren, you have currently trapped your family under it," she explained. My heart started beating even faster while my brain was swirling with thoughts. I had never sang in front of them before and now I wasn't sure how to get them out of it. What if they were stuck like this forever? The sun was also starting to go down, we all needed to get home as soon as possible.
"The necklace will slowly work on getting them out of the trance, but I really do suggest you come with me to learn before something like this happens again," she says with a gentler voice now.
