The head of the event planning division, Mr Roberts, stood and spoke directly to Tanner. He took his time to introduce each of his staff members, how long we had been working for the company and what our strengths were as a department.
When I was introduced, Mr Roberts explained "this is Luna, our newest and youngest addition to the team. She has experience in event planning and has a lot of great ideas that we can't wait to put to use" he finished with a smile. I felt grateful he was willing to speak so highly of me. Mr Roberts was a kind man, who reminded me a lot of my grandfather before he passed away.
"I'm looking forward to keeping a close eye on you then Luna" Tanner said, "I hope we get to work together on a more personal level" he said with a smile, dark amusement in his eyes.
"Thank you Mr. Black" I replied with a small smile, feeling gracious I could speak without stuffing my words up. Tanner went on to explain how we were the highest earning team in the company for the last five years running and he wanted to expand our team to other parts of the country.
He explained to us that he was the owner and CEO of several chains of businesses that tied up into event planning. He owned businesses that covered every aspect of any event we needed to plan, from the furniture hire, food and even fireworks.
He was an extremely well spoken man, no hint of Spanish at all when speaking to us as a collective group. I assumed his family must be Spanish, and that's where he learned it. When the meeting was called to an end two hours later, we all headed for the door.
"Miss Swan, a moment please" Tanner spoke politely as everyone else left the room. He gestured for me to take the seat across from him. I sat down and straightened my posture up.
"Yes Mr. Black, how can I assist you?" I said, my voice showing no signs of emotion apart from politeness. The door finally closed with everyone else out his expression changed. He looked me, his face growing serious.
"Carina, I didn't know you worked here. What a fortunate coincidence" he murmured. I looked back at him and stated "yes, today is my first day on the job. I'm excited to show you my ide.." I stopped when I felt his leg brush mine, his eyes never breaking contact with mine.
He leant forward "I'm excited to see what you can do for me too cariño" brushing his leg against mine again. He stood up and gestured for me to do the same. He turned and headed for the door, but before leaving he faced my direction and said "red is definitely your colour" before winking and exiting the room. I left the boardroom and headed straight for my office where Kairi was waiting for me.
"Oh my god, you got to talk to him one on one. He is so sexy, what I wouldn't give to spend a night tangled up in his sheets" she sighed dreamily.
"Yeah he seems nice enough" I replied. Little did she know what I really wanted to say. She sat down in my visitor chair across from me and gave me her phone number.
"A few of us are heading out after work for dinner and drinks, did you want to come with?" She asked.
I considered her offer but realising how tired I was, I declined her offer.
"Not tonight sorry, feeling a bit exhausted after today. I'm just going to head home and have a quiet one I think. Definitely next time though" I smiled at her. She seemed happy with my reply and sauntered off down the hall.
By the time I got home it was already dark. I had stopped by one of the restaurants downstairs and ordered a hamburger with sweet potato fries to go. My stomach rumbled at the smell of the food, and I realised I hadn't had time to eat all day. I got out of the elevator and up to my apartment door to slide the key into the lock, before everything went black.
