You sat on the porch steps, sharpening your knife. The woman named Maggie was sat next to you. "So, Glenn tells me your good with a gun." You chuckled at her attempt at small talk.

"Yeah, I guess."

"What did you do before all this?"

"Nothing really. Didn't have a job. I stayed at home all day. My power was about to go off because I wasn't paying the bills. Then the world ended. Guess I won't have to worry about that anymore.." You smiled as you put the knife back in its holster.

"What about your family? What happened to them?"

"Uh, came home to my brother hung from a tree branch, and my mom's guts pooled all over the kitchen floor. Dad left before the outbreak, so I don't know what happened to him,"

"Oh, I shouldn't have asked, I'm sorry,"

"It's fine. I think the only bad part, is that I didn't care that they were dead. My mom hated me, my brother resented me, my dad... Well, I don't really want to talk about him.."

She didn't say anything. All she did was pull you into a one-armed hug.

--

You watched as Daryl tortured the young man named Randall. You didn't understand what the kid did to deserve it, but you didn't protest.

It began to bring back bad memories, so you ran outside and gagged as the burning bile rushed up to your throat and out your mouth onto the ground. You coughed at the disgusting taste of your own throw-up and walked back to the doors. You stood outside, not wanting to go back inside and watch the interrogation.

"(Y/N), are you okay?" You felt the sun beading down on your face causing sweat to form on your forehead.

It was becoming hot, too hot. You were becoming light-headed. Shutting your eyes tightly, you heard a voice calling out to you. Leaning against the barn, you slid to the floor. "(Y/N)?!"

"Hmm?" You opened your eyes and saw Maggie. She put her hand on your cheek. "You're burning up! Come on let's go inside." She pulled you up gently and helped you inside the house.

--

"Are you sure you're okay?"

You nodded and drank the glass of water Beth gave you. The cool liquid soothed the burning in your throat.

"Daryl was looking for you. Should I go tell him you're awake?" The younger girl asked putting the glass of water to the side.

"Yeah," You closed your eyes and laid your head back on the soft pillow.

Beth turned off the lights and left, shutting the door quietly.

Not even a few minutes later, there was a small knock at the door. Daryl walked in and sat down in the chair next to the bed. "You good?"

"Mhmm, I'm fine. Probably just the heat," You said.

Daryl was going to say something when the door burst open and Shane walked up to Daryl.

"Randall's gone. Rick needs you to help track him,"

"Can I come too?" You asked getting up.

"No, you're staying here. You have a fever, stay in bed," Daryl said pushing you back down.

"I'm a grown woman, I can make my own decisions. It's already turning dark, so it isn't too hot. I'll be fine," You grabbed your knife and rifle from on top of the dresser and you walked downstairs.

--

You watched as Shane pointed his knife at Rick. He was about to stab him, but you swiftly shot him with your rifle. He fell to the ground and stared at you in shock as you stood over him.

"(Y/N), what did you do?!" Rick yelled.

"He was gonna kill you. I just saved your life, again," You stated. The life faded from Shane's eyes as you started to walk away.

"Dad?" You turned your head and saw Carl walking up with a gun in his hand. "Carl? What are you doing here?" He was about to say something but there was a growl from behind you. You gasped as Shane started to walk up to Rick. You quickly aimed your gun and shot him in the head.

There was a herd of walkers behind you. You grabbed Carl's hand and started running back to the house.

"Carl, (Y/N), over here!" Rick started running in the direction of the barn. You and Carl quickly followed behind.

Rick gave Carl a lighter and told him to light it when Rick told him too. You followed Carl up the ladder and waited for the signal.

When Carl dropped the lighter you had to escape the barn quickly. The fire attracted some of the walkers that were at the house. You held Carl's hand as Rick led Hershel to the vehicle that was left behind.

Rick and Hershel went to the front while you pushed Carl inside the back.

You sat in silence as Rick drove to the highway that you and Sophia got lost from. "Did you see Daryl? Glenn, Maggie? Beth?" You asked Hershel.

"Wasn't paying attention. I'm sure they got out just fine,"

You nodded and hugged Carl tightly.

--

You were lifted off the ground as Daryl hugged you. He kissed your forehead gently before you both headed towards your separate vehicles.

You stared out the window and watched as you passed abandoned cars and dead bodies. Seeing all this didn't affect you anymore. You used to revolt at the thought of a dead body.

Now, you didn't care as you saw bloodstained car seats and gut-covered windows. You heard a car's horn go off, so you lolled your head to the side and heard Rick cursing silently.

"We ran out of gas, we walk from here," He said getting out of the car.

You opened the door and stepped out. Rick told everyone there wasn't any gas left in the car, and that everyone had to walk from here - find somewhere to stay for the night.
