CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT: M.I.A

A damp cloth is pressed over my nose and mouth. My eyes shoot open as I try focus on what's happening but my body is still consumed by sleep.Struggling to breath because of the strong smell stinging my nose, I start panicking.As my body goes weak and mopy I fail to wake Jack up. I can see him sleeping with his back turned away from me out the corner of my eyes struggling to keep open.Whatever is going on, it's happening very silently because Jack would have woken up by now-but he is a deep sleeper. Great.After about 30 seconds of suffocating, my vision blurs and then goes black.

JACKS POV:
I wake up to find that Billie isn't in bed. Maybe she's gone to the bathroom or downstairs?I sit up and stretch. There's a knock on the door.

Ja: come in
Mom: good morning honey
She says popping her head around the door
Ja: morning mama
M: where's Billie?
Ja: is she not downstairs?
M:no,I came up here to see if you guys were okay last night...if you know what I mean
She says winking
Ja:ugh no mom stop
I say tryna hide my smile
Ja: yeah we were fine. She's probably in the bathroom or outside maybe. I'll go check
M: okay. Breakfast is ready
Ja: thanks mom

I get up and knock on my bathroom door. There's no answer so I enter and find nothing. I check all the other bathrooms in the house, all the other rooms in the house, the porch, the pool area, the garden and backyard and I still find nothing. I call her phone and soon realize that it's ringing in my bedroom. She obviously left it. That's strange, why would she leave her phone?Okay now I'm getting really worried. Maybe she went home? But she would've told me.I decide to call her mom

Ja: morning Mags
Maggie: Jack darling, how's Billie?
My gut drops
Ja:is she not there with you?
Ma: no she hasn't come back since she left? Jack! Jack where's my baby!
Ja: uh...don't stress, she's probably with zendaya maybe? I woke up and she wasn't in the house
Ma: Jack find my baby and bring her back to me! I've lost her dad and her brother...I can't lose her Jack!
Her voice is shaking
Ja:of course...yeah I'll...uh keep you posted

Panic starts to rise in me now. Okay breath Jack breath. she's probably with one of the guys or Zee. I call each and every one of them and none of them have seen her since they left my house yesterday. I even call Emma and she hasn't seen her either.Okay that's it. I'm not gonna sit around all day thinking of where she could be, I'm gonna look for her and with the help of Zee and the guys I know we can do it. We schedule to meet at the cafe to talk this through.I throw a hoodie on and head downstairs

M: where are you going?
Ja: I'm going to look for Billie mom
M: you still haven't found her?!
Ja:no
I say stuffing a breakfast bagel in my mouth and chugging down some Dr Pepper
D: did you check at her house an-
Ja: yeah dad I've checked everywhere but I'm meeting up with Zee and the guys so we can drive around and look
Ava:you better find her. She's the only one of your girlfriends I actually like
Ja: I wish she was my girlfriend Ava
Sydnie: what? Y'all aren't a thing?!
Ja: that's not important right now Syd
Sydnie: did she go for the other guys? Was it Corbyn-he's cute
Ja: okay one: he's my best friend-off limits and two: look for guys your own age
Sydnie: I just said he was cute, chill Jack
Not knowing where Billie is, is really messing with my head
Isla: morning Jacky
She says coming into the room rubbing her eyes as she's just woken up
Ja:hey Lala
I say crouching down and wrapping my arms around her waist
Ja:listen, Jacky needs to go but I'll see you later Okay?
Isla:okay but where's Billie?I want to say morning
Ja: she's uh...she's gone home but I'll be back with her later
I can't tell Isla the truth until I'm sure
Isla: Okay. Bye bye
She says giving me a quick squeeze and heading to the table to eat her breakfast
Ja: alright love you guys
