After my shift I grabbed my phone to text him. I threw myself on the bed, my feet hanging over the edge and unlocked my phone.

"No new messages" I didn't get worked up over this though, Yes Beau and I had been dating for several months, and he hadn't texted me in a week but I tried not to let panicking thoughts take over.

About 2 weeks later I saw him again.

I walked up to his tall figure, looking down the whole time, kicking small rocks that appeared on the concrete. When I was finally standing close enough, I lightly tapped his shoulder.

"Hi."

"Oh hi."

"Where have you been?" I said in a low voice

"Around."

I looked down and held my own hand

"Sorry I haven't texted you I've just been busy you know? I mean we haven't been dating too long I didn't think you'd mind."

"It doesn't matter if we've been dating for a small period of time- I mean- I just miss you."

"I miss you too. I'll make it up to you. I promise. I'll call you later Sweetheart." He kissed me and left.

After walking home I felt thoughtless and I felt a lack of emotion. Just complete numbness. I waited for his call. Finally my phone rang and I answered it.

"Hi Sweetheart, how are you doing?"

"Feeling alright. And you?"

"I miss you, love, Wanna go to the bookstore tomorrow?"

"Of course." I smiled through the phone

"Great, can't wait to see you." I felt his smile through the phone from the way he said it "I love you."

"I love you too Beau."

When I saw him waiting outside my door for me I knew he truly missed me.

"Hi cutie." I pecked him on the lips quickly, then James came out.

"Brooks. "

"Well hello there James. Don't mind if I take my girlfriend out do you?"

I couldn't stand Beau and James together. There was always so much aggressive tension and I was afraid if I left them alone together, they'd get into a fist fight.

"Take care of her. Or you'll have to deal with me." he bumped into Beau and hugged me. "Love you James. Please calm down okay?"

"Alright."

"Lets get out of here." Beau grabbed my hand and held me close to him while walking down the 4 blocks to the bookstore.

I finally broke the silence on the third block.

"Why don't you and James like each other?"

"He's too protective of you, Vic. He can't have you to himself all the time. He's not your boyfriend, I am."

"Try to be nice to him okay? He means well. He's just looking out for me."

I smiled with hope and threw my hands around his neck and tried my hardest to reach his face.

"It's funny because you can't reach me yet." He teased. With his hands lightly wrapped around my waist, he picked me up and kissed me.

"Can we read?"

"Sure." He smiled after kissing my cheek

An hour went by and we were resting on the floor reading, our fingers intertwining.

"I'm gonna go get a Bukowski book, I've already finished this one" He said holding his book up, while slowly peeling himself off the floor section next to me

"I'll be right back."

"No problem"

I found myself bored and worried after Beau being gone for a large amount of time. I looked at my phone constantly. The hour went by. I waited almost two hours and he never showed. Tears welled up and I left.

"Nice date" I said to myself after picking myself off the floor and headed for the door

I walked the blocks home and sat on the stairs. Resting my head against the door, I say until I finally had the strength to stand up and unlock the door.

I threw myself onto the floor.

"James" I called through the house

"James?"

No answer.

"JAMES"

"What?"

"Come downstairs please"

"Why??" he whined

"Because I need you-"
