I drop Lee off,
My face falls into my hands.
She won't look at me.
I knew my words were going to hurt.
They were the truth,
And sometimes it hurts.
I whisper.
I'm sorry.
She opens the car door—
At her porch, I can hear—
Her scream from inside.
I pull away.
A text from Big D comes in.
DTF?
Eggplant—yes.
Peach butt—yes.
The drive is not pretty.
I broke five laws intentionally;
Another two by accident.
I park and wait.
