Church is boring.
I wipe down the table;
Lee cracks her hundredth egg.
My mother mixes everything like some medieval witch.
I can almost hear the Hocus Pocus theme song.
I giggle like an anime character—
Wiping the smear of flour off Lee's cheek.
She blushes.
Our eyes lock for a moment.
I wonder if I see more in her gaze than she wanted to show.
It was almost like there was a place—
Inside where her heart aches.
It is like she drank what she wasn't supposed to—
What they told her not too.
I hope someday they—
Stop making her pay the price.
