"How do you know so much about all of these artists?"
The two had continued their journey through the museum with Kevin educating Jacob on all he knew about the art they had on display. Jacob listened intently to everything the other had to say because everything seemed to sound amazing when the younger talked about it.
"It's a passion of mine. I've always enjoyed art history so I am studying art for school. My job also requires me to know a little bit of history background."
Jacob was amazed at the boy beside him. He could see the passion in the other's eyes when he told the stories behind each painting they passed.
"That's cool. I'm studying music theory. Not too exciting, but I really enjoy it."
Kevin looked at the older boy with a smile on his face, "Do you play any instruments?"
"Oh, yeah. I play guitar, piano, and I sing as well."
Kevin's eyes widened from excitement, "I sing and play guitar as well! I used to be in my high school's choir, but I decided to take a different route once I graduated." It was always exciting to find others that enjoyed music just as much as the younger did, not many people seemed to be as open minded about it all.
The two continued on with their walk, soon realizing they were starting to find their way back to where they began. Both were not looking forward to end their journey, but neither were about to protest in case the other was ready to leave.
"Hey, so I get off of work in a little bit less than an hour. Would you maybe like to get coffee after this?"
Jacob immediately nodded his head, the thought of seeing the boy again made him excited. This was a great opportunity to get to know him a bit more and maybe make a new friend, something Jacob rarely had these days.
"Great! I'll meet you at the entrance in an hour. I know a great coffee shop just down the road." Kevin was failing at trying to hide his excitement as he bounced on his feet. He didn't expect to get this far with his soulmate and he was ecstatic to see Jacob again.
Jacob decided on walking around the museum again, checking out the artwork that stuck out to him when Kevin was giving him a tour earlier. It was great that he had found more pieces to excited about, even though he didn't think it was possible after touring the museum so many times before on his own.
His mind wandered onto a specific nagging thought. There was something about Kevin that felt strangely familiar to the older. He couldn't put his finger on it, but he loved the feeling nonetheless. He didn't feel like this around his own boyfriend and he felt relieved at the new connection.
He decided on taking a breather outside at the nearby park. There weren't too many people in the park except for a few elderly couples walking around and some dog walkers so Jacob found his way to the closest bench. The calmness of his surrounding environment influenced his emotions to mimic the same feeling.
Kevin was so interesting to the older boy. He found the younger to be a constant thought in his mind ever since they departed. The way his hair waved onto his forehead, the cat-like shape to his eyes, and how prominent his cheek bones were, especially when he smiled. Everything about him was perfect to Jacob.
It also scared Jacob that he felt this way about the other. Why has he never felt this way about his own boyfriend?
The sound of a ding brought Jacob's attention to his phone. It was a text from his boyfriend telling him to come home and that they needed to talk about things. His frustration from earlier had returned and he hated how easily his boyfriend brought that out of him.
He decided on ignoring the text and put his phone away, examining the scenery before him instead.
Back at the museum, Kevin was impatient to say the least. He found one of his fellow tour guides and friend, someone he always goes to when he talks about Jacob, near one of the other guide stations. He had exciting news to share with the other.
"Eric! Eric! I found out his name! Oh my god I know his name!" Kevin was jumping up and down ecstatically.
"Kevin, calm down, bro. That's awesome, I'm happy for you."
"I asked him out to coffee after this and he said yes. Wow, he's so sweet and he's just like I remember."
Eric chuckled at his friend, "Man, I wish I knew my soulmate. I hope they're not rude and ignoring me."
Kevin laughs, still giddy from his earlier encounters. "You'll find them, trust me. I waited two lifetimes to finally find Jacob again. Yours is out there."
Eric had to eventually get back to his scheduled tours, leaving Kevin to roam around the building until his shift was over.
He would find people admiring specific pieces for awhile and he would go up to them with random little facts about the artist or the art work. It helped pass the time and before he knew it, his shift had finished up.
There was no stopping Kevin, as he quickly walked to the staff area to grab his belongings and headed out the door. He was excited to see Jacob once more before the day ended. He made his way to the front entrance to see that no one was standing outside, just a few passerby's and new museum guests.
Hm weird, thought Kevin. He walked into the museum to see if Jacob was waiting in the front area with the benches, but found only random, unfamiliar people. So he decided to ask one of the front desk attendees if they had seen a boy about his height wearing a soft cream sweater. Much to his disappointment, they said that he had left a while ago.
Frustrated, Kevin sighs and walks out the doors. A cold breeze whips his jacket open, causing the boy to shiver. What a disappointing end to his day.
He was beginning his walk down the sidewalk towards the direction of his car when a shout had stopped him in his tracks.
"Kevin! Wait!"
With a smile growing on his face he turned around to see a familiar, short, cute boy running up to him. Happiness was filling inside him once more.
"I'm so sorry, I lost track of time."
